I never understood why they killed the Neon in the USA. While it had its problems, it seemed to sell pretty well and had good marketing.

I have never seen a "Neon".
Is the Neon one of those ancient World War II vehicles that nobody remembers except the History channel?

    Re: All new Dodge Neon

Back in the early 2000 s I needed a quick rental car. The vehicle they had on the lot was a neon. It was such a piece of crap.

    I only needed it for a 40 mile drive....maybe 60 miles...

It was a tin can on wheels and it's three speed automatic was horrible....making the poor little engine run such high rpm s it made a terrible racket.

I imagine the manual version was good as supposedly the neon was a terror in racing in its showroom stock class....

Chrysler should just get rid of the dart....it was a vehicle designed to get 40 mph in government testing so fist could take full control of Chrysler.

Hobbled together it just wasn't a car for America.

Maybe that fiat could meet US safety regs but somehow I think it wouldn't.

Cheaper to just put a new front facia on a mazda. (Like Toyota is doing...

So offer up a neon which is actually a mazda 3

And offer up the 200 which is actually a mazda 6.

God knows mazda could use extra distribution and sales on those two models..

We drove a couple of Neons out of curiosity when shopping new cars. They were not in our sights. The 3A was a real show-stopper, when almost everyone else had 4As as standard. It was not anywhere near the Protege or even the Mitsu Mirage as far as appeal, spiff, and drivability/handling.

There are lots of seriously clapped-out Neons with smoking issues on the road, relative to other small cheap cars. When you do stuff on the cheap, you get a cheap car. DUH.

Wonder if it was ever Car Of The Year? No, guess not.

SRT-4 got good reviews as I recall.

That was a lot of bang for your buck at the time. People tended to like them.

If it meets US safety standards, this could replace the Dart.

Probably would be better as a sub-Dart like a Sonic or Fiesta. Size wise it is between a Fiesta (sedan) and a Dart in terms of width and length. If they could earn sufficient margins on it by importing it, then it's probably fine.

No, it's not a B-segment car. For its dimensions (wheelbase and track width) it's a true C-segment.

Perhaps, though it could compete on lower pricing as it does in Europe.

    Re: All new Dodge Neon

The Neon was one of the greatest Domestic Compact cars, so good that it deserved its own racing series, which gave birth to the Neon ACR. Yes it had mechanical problem (Head Gaskets) that many cars....mainly HONDAS have had around that time., Some say it was a "Tin can" but "Tin can" of a car wouldnt be able to do the things the Neon could do. from the Strip to the Track it was performer.
