    Lincoln Mark IX Return

I am copying and pasting from a Lincoln LS forum:

    Today on Autoline Daily:

No doubt most of you remember the Lincoln Mark series that started with the Mark I in 1948, all the way to the last Mark VIII made in 1998. Well it sure looks like the Lincoln Motor Company is getting ready to revive that lineup with an all new Mark IX. According to Auto Forecast Solutions LLC, a Lincoln Mark IX is slated to be built at Ford’s Flat Rock assembly plant in January, 2022. From the sound of it, it will be a low-volume niche product that could be a coupe or convertible. Of course, 2022 is seven years away and a lot could change between now and then. But as of right now, a Mark IX is part of Lincoln’s product plan.
I haven't seen this episode yet but that's quite a ways out. I wonder if they are waiting for an all new Mustang platform? It could just be all fluff too.

The Mark Series is one of the oldest names in the industry it has some great cachet and typically was Lincoln's most expensive model.

That seems like an awfully long forecast into the future.

I loved the Mark VIII...but holy crap, 2022? If they're talking about bringing back the "Mark __" cars 2022 should be the Mark X

    Interesting.

If it's that far out, maybe the platform they hope to use hasn't even been designed yet.

Still, it seems from a genuine source.

Well 2022 would be 100 years of Ford owning Lincoln they could be waiting for that. 2017 is Lincoln's 100th might not be ready in time and besides that's when the Conti launches.

    .

I googled Lincoln Mark IX prototype and got this.

Maybe it's closer than we think?

Hate to say it, but that looks FWD to me from the position of the windshield vis-a-vis the front.

A lot can happen to the global economy by 2022, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

Another point is, who knows what the automotive landscape will look like then. Electric and self-driving cars will no doubt have made significant inroads into the market, or at least the luxury market.

    Both quite true.

Still, I would love to see some kind of Lincoln Coupe again. Preferably RWD. (Seems to be almost necessary for Coupes, especially luxury ones. The proportions achievable are too important for 2 door cars).

And I don't give a Gnats Brain Cell what they call it. Mark XIXIXIX or "Capri" of MK-something.

If it's planned this far ahead, there must be some engineering consideration put into a new platform.
