Post Lincoln Continental Sales on the Rise

Thanks to the new Lincoln Continental turning heads everywhere it goes, along with offering a truly impressive luxury experience, it’s earned a second place spot amongst full-size premium luxury sedan sales in the United States. As always, Mercedes-Benz tops the list with 1,275 units sold. Ford’s Lincoln Continental comes in at a fairly close second with 1,061 units sold. Next up comes GM’s Cadillac CT6 selling 1,001 units. Following Cadillac is BMW’s 7-Series with 524 sales. The Volvo S90 sold 473 times. The new Genesis Motors brand’s G90 sold 397 units. The Lexus LS only sold 317. Even less than that, the Audi A8/S8 sold 216 units of the full-size premium luxury sedan.

Apparently, people in America have had their eyes opened by the impressive new products coming from both General Motors and the Ford Motor Company. Unfortunately for Lexus, the stale, old drivetrain in the otherwise excellent LS460 has been having a lot of trouble interesting buyers in the United States. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class never seems to have trouble but the Bavarian company must be concerned about the future of both the Lincoln and Cadillac as more and more people see their latest achievement on the road in their impressive stances. It's not perfect by any means, but it is a massive leap forward for Lincoln even with it's shortcomings.

I was with my dad down to the Ford dealer the other day while he was checking out a van, so I was looking one of these over and I wasn't exactly impressed with the styling and the droopy pouting front end.

Isn't Lincoln supposedly doing this complementary to Continental ~2023?

Rumor was that the next Conti was due 2022 or so on a RWD D6 platform. Other rumors suggest given the industry appearing headed into a downturn among other issues D6 has been canceled. I guess we'll find out next year as the next Explorer/Aviator and MKZ were all said to use D6 for MY2019.

They ruined the dash to axle ratio by stretching the Fusion instead of giving it a RWD platform. Really ruins what could have been a design icon.

    Nice car though.

Engineer friend at Ford says a RWD Continental (along with platform mates) is still in development.

But anything can change between now and 2022.

I was under the impression it would be a RWD car ABOVE Continental, and Continental would continue alongside it.

Just going to say the same as I saw a a livery Continental parked in front of my building to pick someone up. Mercedes, Cadillac and Lincoln are used quite a bit for livery, so comparing them to the others (BMW, Lexus, etc) isn't apples and oranges. While there is no issue with selling to livery, a puff piece like this is using the sales volume to say "look how popular and therefore desirable our vehicle is". For popularity I think only regular consumer retail sales should be used. Livery, fleet, rental, etc. are all bought for reasons other than desire.

Yes to both, I also read the rumor that there would be a larger car above Continental either a Town Car or Continental Town Car of some sort.
