Ford’s All-New Focus RS Sprints To 62 MPH in 4.7 Seconds and Hits 165 MPH

Ford Motor Company’s all-new Focus RS will sprint from 0-62 mph in 4.7 seconds – making the high-performance hatchback the fastest-accelerating RS model yet. Focus RS – powered by a specially engineered version of Ford’s new 2.3-liter EcoBoost® engine producing projected 350 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque – will reach a top speed of 165 mph. For North America, Focus RS pricing will start at $36,605.

The all-new 2016 Focus RS optimizes acceleration by introducing launch control technology to a Ford RS model for the first time. Focus RS also debuts new Ford Performance All-Wheel Drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring – for outstanding traction and grip with dynamic agility and cornering speed.

“The all-new Focus RS will bring the legendary nameplate to a new generation of global customers for the first time,” said Dave Pericak, director, Ford Performance. “Focus RS delivers stunning performance and innovative technology at a price that will make both enthusiast consumers and premium automakers look twice.” Continue reading...

Only for the hardcore Focus fan. Nice car, but not for $36 grand. Rather have a Camaro.

I've been watching this, very impressive numbers, w/a equally impressive price. Shame about the extra doors.

I'm with you, impressive car but I don't think the Ford would get my $36k. I guess this is why GM is staying out of the small car performance - to do it right they end up in Camaro/ATS/BMW, etc. territory....

Globally, there's big demand for small car performance - away from North America, it'll sell profitably and act as halo for the rest of the range.

Or even break ranks and buy a Mustang if it absolutely had to be a Ford. Jeez. $36K for a compact is ridiculous. And people were talking $#!+ about Chevy charging more for the Camaro SS than the GT.. then this drops.. right on a Ford lot.

Also.. didn't the Cobalt SS Turbo start at like $23K? That car was capable of 0-60 in 5.4 seconds 8 years ago with 90 less HP. AWD and the extra HP would not make me want to pay an extra $13K for a Cruze SS if it existed, let alone a Focus

Right... and today, there's a Focus ST that matches the old Cobalt SS Turbo in performance and price. This is a step above that.

Focus RS is also roomier and more practical than either a Mustang or Camaro, and goes better in bad weather.

There are legions of Mitsubishi Lancer Evo fans, who would never touch a Camaro or Mustang with a 10 foot pole, who are now orphaned. This compares very favorably to the WRX STI and Golf R. They'll gobble this up, have a great experience, then look to the rest of Ford's products when they need something more practical.

This really isn't comparable to Mustangs and Camaros. Ford would like to give you a choice, which is novel isn't it?

I hope they put at least a slightly de-tuned version of this engine in the Fusion ST/SHO thing that is rumored.

These numbers have to be low. I would expect around 4.4 to 4.5 0-60. If the suspension tuning is on point you wont get that from a comparable luxury brand model. Nor do i think you will get it from a stang or maro at 36k. Again thats if the suspension is on point. Cant wait for a comparo against the WRX.

Sorry Wes.. I have yet to see an ST Focus come close to the 5.4 0-60 time. The Focus ST can't even keep up with my full size Impala, let alone the "NurburgRing Compact King's" 8:22.85 from 8 years ago.

Whoops... for some reason I thought the ST was faster.

Didn't the Cobalt SS have a problem with exploding motors and other catastrophic reliability issues? I always wondered why they would cancel such a successful model.

No, because GM offered Stage _ Kits that were backed under warranty.

The price isn't bad for what it is. I like it.

But wescoent, you have to drop the "FORD IS SO GREAT, AND I KNOW EVERYTHING..."

    schtick. It's pretty pathetic.

Two less doors and DSG and I would buy it as a daily driver. It would be such a fun car to drive in all weather conditions that I could get past the boy racer looks.

By the way, I've been asking for GM to make this color for a while.

    Recent debuts:

    Honorable mentions:

(and yes... that IS Paddy's Pub in the background of the bottom picture... har har)

They do get bonus points for trying...

    But I don't know anything.
