Ford rolling out new Bang & Olufsen audio systems for 2017

Ford signs deal with Harman for new B&O audio systems
    9/12/2016

    AutoNews

Ford Motor Co. and Harman International Industries Inc. said Monday select Ford vehicles would be delivered next year with B&O Play audio systems to meet increasing consumer demand for affordable, quality sound systems.

The automaker has not said how many vehicles it plans to sell with the new systems or which particular models will roll out with the technology first -- only that it will be done globally.

A Ford statement said the exclusive partnership was born out of the understanding that a vehicle’s audio brand is an important factor in a customer’s purchase consideration.

The release specifically referred to the 2016 Ipsos U.S. Audio and Infotainment Brand Study in which about one-third of new-vehicle buyers said the vehicle’s audio brand has a significant impact on their purchase decision. The study also said if a vehicle has a top audio brand like Bang & Olufsen, up to 50 percent of the consumers said the audio brand may impact their decision.

Harman’s high-end Revel brand already partnered with Ford luxury brand Lincoln in December 2014. Wyman said sound quality is no longer “an exclusive sliver” of technology only a few people get a piece of.

B&O is style and branding over audio quality.

Sounds like distorted farts in Audis.

Over-stated as usual, , but still better than the BOSE crap in most GM products.

Bose has so much quality variation between cars and brands it may as well have no branding at all.

The B&O systems are seriously harsh in any application, absolutely not worth the premium price. I prefer B&W in Jaguars.

I have yet to try the Krell system in the Acura RLX.

Very true, but even their best stuff is meh. Until they move past small paper drivers, they are always going to be a step behind.

B&O's are very bright and dynamic - that's their sound. You either like it or you don't. I like it for some music, not so much for others.

Actually, I am itching to hear the Revel system in the Continental, they make some nice stuff. B&W product is generally top notch, so I have no qualms with that. Kind of surprised Acura got Krell, to be honest.

I actually require FLAC files, because I'm a dog and need to hear everything in crisply imperceptible perfection or my day is simply ruined. Nothing worse than finishing off a really ruff day with a bad subwoofer.

Cool for Ford though, this is neat. When will Panaray expand throughout Cadillac?

    PS Jesda, stick to butter.

Granted, I'm no audiophile, but I think the Bose system in my truck sounds pretty good.

The only people who can hear the difference are dogs and audio salesman.

If you like it, then you are happy and that is good. I haven't heard one yet that I really thought sounded GOOOOOOD. The Bose systems in both our vehicles are merely OK and that is about it, which isn't surprising considering the quality of drivers that they use.

If B&O (or Bose for that matter) is good or not isn't really the point as 90% of the buying public don't have a clue. In both cases they're recognizable brand names and people will hear what they hear, most thinking they're hearing something great even if it's just above average. Consumers suck!

    The A6 uses Bose?

Bingo. Nobody knows, nobody cares. There's no perceptible difference in sound quality to my finely tuned listening implements between I'm pretty sure a brandless Honda system and the B&O in my S5.

Call me a cynic, but it's all a load of crap; just like car brands. It all boils down to preference and what you're willing to accept, and arguing otherwise is little more than masturbation.

I'm pleased with my Monsoon systems I've had in my Pontiacs! It's a freakin' car...not Kleinhans!
I wish they all could be California squirrels!
Past Rides: 2003 Grand Am GT1 (saved me), 1995 Bonneville SLE (RIP), 1986 635 CSi, 1984 Estate Wagon, 1978 Malibu Classic, 1978 Corvette, 1975 Vega Kammback (Miss ya'), 1971 Dodge Dart Swinger (STFU...it got me there!)

My Bose in my old 07 Sierra wasn't that great. My Sony Fusion blows it out of the water
