They aren't alike. The Territory is an SUV, I believe not a crossover.

They are almost identical but the Territory is a RWD/AWD vehicle whereas the Freestyle is a FWD/AWD vehicle. The Territory seems to be an even more flexible car with the split tailgate and the wet/dry rear flooring. Dimensions are also different. The FS is 199.8 inches long and the Territory is 191.2 inches long. The FS is 68.2 inches high and the Territory is 67.5 inches high. The FS width is 74.4 and Territory's is 74.72. They obviously are cousins but not the same car. The Territory has a very nice interior that the FS could use.

Why didn't Ford bring that interior to the Freestyle? That is a nice looking interior!

I've loved the Territory much more than the Freestyle since the first time I saw it.

And to answer your question nsap.....

The two vehicles are on totally different platforms. The Territory is based on the Aussie Falcon platform, although both obviously share similar inspiration.

Not only that but some of the exterior enhancments, why didn't they put that two tone look on the Freestyle? It makes in look much more SUVish, which is the point of the freestyle.

Although the FS uses both two tone and monotone looks, the two tone car in the pic is the Territory.

They may be on different platforms, etc. etc. but they have more than a striking resemblance. The interior of the Territory looks similar to most Holdens. The funny thing about the FS is that when I was at NAIAS my cousin commented on how it looked a lot like the SRX especially from the A-pillar back. Then he saw the Fusion and said hey look a smaller STS. I try not to look to hard at a car for similarities, unless its the really obvious (Hyundai Sonata/Accord). The one different thing that I would like to see on the FS would be the larger tail light, it looks less wimpy.

I have heard this comprison made as well. What is truly ironic is that this kind of design has been around at Ford much longer than it has at Cadillac. The Fusion is simply an evolution of new-edge and Lincoln designs that Ford has been contemplating for well over a decade now.

The difference is Ford has been placing this onto show cars with it never finding it's way onto a production Ford or Lincoln to this extent. No doubt, Cadillacs "art and science" borrowed heavily from Ford's hardcore new-edge themed show cars, but GM put it on their production car first and most people are likely going to cite that it looks like Ford borrowed from GM when the truth is ther opposite. So it goes.

However, IMO the resemblence is passing at best although similar influences are obviously evident.

As much as I hate the term, they're both "crossovers"...car-based SUV-like vehicles.

There seems to be the common thought that the Territory is on the Falcons chassis - its not. It shares things like transmission, engine, some interior parts and a similar IRS setup, but the chassis of both cars are completely different
