A Ford Bronco May Also Be in the Pipeline

    LeftLaneNews

The midsize SUV would be built upon the same platform as the Ranger and produced alongside the pickup at Ford's Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, unnamed sources have told Bloomberg.

Not coincidentally, the unofficial reports have surfaced as Ford continues contract renegotiations with the United Auto Workers. An earlier rumor ahead of talks claimed that Ford was planning to shift Focus and C-Max production from Wayne to Mexico. The Focus leak was viewed as posturing to strengthen the company's position during negotiations, though the company publicly denied that a final decision had been made.

It would be a great thing IMO. The Wrangler hasn't had a real competitor since the FJ Cruiser came out (and even then the FJ was at a great disadvantage).

If true, this is the long overdue return of a legend.

    A milion times YES!

While not an SUV fan -hate them-, I have a special place in my heart for purpose-built off-roaders.

I had one. It went anywhere and back . Big mistake that they stopped making them in my opinion.

If they do it, I sure hope that they don't screw it up. An early Bronco has always been on my bucket list.

So they might be building a Ford Bronco too, or they might be building a Ford Bronco II...?

Actually, either way would be cool!

Re: A Ford Bronco May Also Be in the Pipeline

A new Bronco is expected to be larger than the Escape, closer in size to the Explorer but more rugged than both existing models. It could be presented as a rival to the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, though the current Everest is more of a competitor to the Nissan Pathfinder.

    http://www.leftlanenews.com/ford-con...val-89502.html
That's what I'm expecting too, just so people are thinking four door Wrangler and not a smaller two-door competitor. Which I'm all for, by the way. But here's the thing: wouldn't the Everest, name or otherwise, be agreeable as a Grand Cherokee competitor? It lacks a butch look as with a Wrangler or Hummer, so that might be what people want to change. That said, the Everest is already a Ranger based Ford SUV, so mechanically it's probably more or less what we'd be getting. But in order to differentiate it from the Edge and Explorer, they might benefit by making it more stylistically rugged in order to draw in new customers as opposed to overlapping ones witching out of other Ford SUVs.

It NEEDS to have 2 doors. I guess worst case it could have Saturn-ion like rear doors, but if it's a traditional 4-door body, I'll be very disappointed.

Oh, and it needs a Raptor version.

Hmmm... Ford should introduce a 2-door Bronco, and Lincoln should get an Everest-based Aviator with baby-Navigator styling. The Navigator is already being redone, so it's a great time to create a new family SUV look for Lincoln. Both could be aluminum.

Based on the description given, it will probably be more like a 4-door Wrangler, which may disappoint you. I, for one, would be very happy with that. At least it would mean Ford is dipping it's toes into the Bronco water (maybe bringing a 2-door model later).

Other than the Aviator most likely being on the D6 platform, I think you're right about the premise of the Aviator. It will most likely be a baby Navigator, hopefully with some more aesthetic differences this time around.

I could see them selling both versions. But to offer it without a 4-door model would be an absolute mistake in today's market, especially long term. Short term, it might do well with pent up demand/buyers coming out of the wood work, but long term, its success would depend on its ability to broaden its market. Look at how well the Wrangler has done since adding the 4-door model.

Good point. But if they are going to tug on our heart strings by bringing back a legendary name, not offering a 2-door would hurt my feelings and make me sad.

You know what, I could see some Flex design touches looking great on a new Bronco...
