Easy Ways for Ford to compete against Scion, Cube.

    http://www.az-w.mazda.co.jp/custom_s...id=car_a_azwcs

    http://www.carol.mazda.co.jp/?tid=car_a_caro

    http://www.spiano.mazda.co.jp/?tid=car_a_spia

All three are Mazdas that are not sold here. They would have to change them slightly for nationalizing them but they could give Ford a jump into the young market, some of which has been alienated by the design and size of the new Scions.

You mean Scion, the same company that failed?

They are starting to fail because they left what their base wanted. They fattened up their cars.

That and marginal profit they made on their cars which lead to minimal R&D budget? Scion was no more than a fad, a hype... now we see proof of it.

It wasnt a fad, they simply turned off their base, and that leaves a void for these.

I MIGHT consider driving the AZ wagon, but I would be pissed if Mazda brought any of those over. Badging them as a Ford would blow up in both companies faces.

Ausrutherford, seeing that Mark Fields was head of Mazda not long ago, he'd know about these models, and since nothing's been heard about them coming here...
    however
re: the AZ-Wagon - it won't surprise me if Mercury gets a premium-passenger version of the TransitConnect
as for Mazda - imho all they need to do for starters is get the Mazda2 over here ASAP

Mercury does not need a luxury version of a utility van!!!! Come on hear yourself think.

Re: Easy Ways for Ford to compete against Scion, Cube.

    au contraire
imho, the partly-Focus-based TransitConnect can easily be looked at as a lot more than a "utility van"
ie more of a multi(all)purpose vehicle than the xB ever was
    with longer-lasting coolness

so Ford would concentrate on the utilitarian aspects with "work versions" -- tho that would include DIYers like the van craze of the hippy era - while more establish(ed)ment/respectable types would get the Mercury with the luxuries built-in.

    ^all^ just imho of course

GM would better benefit from these than Ford.

While they're sold as Mazdas, they're in fact rebadged or very lightly cosmetically modified Suzukis.

Even Nissan's Moco is sourced from Suzuki.

And they're considerably smaller than Scions, all falling into the Kei category.

Still, that Spiano's an interesting little motor!

Well good thing Ford owns Mazda and not GM.

Thanks. I personally am not a fan of "cute" anything, from cars to yard ornaments...but I think a lot of people, especially younger women, like that look.....I can imagine these cars appealing to such women here in the US.
