    Continental/MKR Mashup

    Hi!

Everyone seems to like the Lincoln MKR concept, so I did away with the front end of it (this is the main part people are "eh" about nowadays since the concept has aged so well except for the face) and replaced it with that of the new Continental concept. I also put the Lincoln hips on it and the Continental character line.

Thought some of you may enjoy seeing this quick chop.

p.s. sorry it's low-res. I wanted the pics to match up okay with the pixels and photo angle, and this is the best I could find.

You know, when you put it like that, I guess the new grille could be a lot worse.

Nice job. MKR was a cool concept that should have seen the light of day. Too bad it didn't!

I wish they would have kept the split-wing grille on the Continental. IMHO this looks amazing:

Thanks everybody! I may use that split wing Continental to make a split wing MKR.

    Well done. Looks very convincing.

Though as a personal opinion, I don't think the Continentals face "fits" the MKR's shape. The MKR had a very clean and forward leaning "tension". The Continental, its face included, is a far more complicated design and looks very much "planted"; and overall appears to be perfectly happy sitting just where it is, thank you very much.

Everything right with the concept would've been ruined in production form. Just look at how the MKT front end turned out from concept to production, and body-wise, every time that type of surfacing has been transferred to a production vehicle, the flat parts turn out well, but the rest ends up looking distorted.

Just going on record in this discussion that I prefer the split-winged grille over the new whatever-you-call-it Continental grille...

I agree. It stings even more now because they were finally getting the split-wing grille to look great on their newer offerings.

The problem of course is that the MKR Concept simply couldn't be made at that time. Ford was not in a good way like the rest of the Big Three, and Lincoln was not going to receive the level of investment necessary to make this car a reality. What they should have done was take the Falcon, then still fresh having been redesigned for 2008, and made a LHD version of the platform with the MKR's exterior (aside from the concept's low roofline, the rest of it should translate well to production from a dimensional standpoint) and interior. Naturally the grille would need to be slimmed, etc, but largely that car could have made it to production and been a nice entry in the mid-luxury segment. The reality was that all of that though was beyond what Ford would do, as even the MKS could have been way nicer than was the 2009 car (just look at the MKS Concept). It was a lack of seriousness and resources that Lincoln had in this late-2000s era of Lincoln that resulted in cars like the MKS.

they could have skipped the short-wlb D385-compromise
and just built the still F-Awd E386 big-brother
    which
    imho
    might have pre-killed the XTS...

    ...or made Cadillac REACH HIGHER
