    2017 Ford F-150 with All-New 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 Nets Best-in-Class V8-Beating 470

    https://media.ford.com/content/fordm...-best-in-.html

    - All-new, second-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6 engine in the 2017 Ford F-150 produces 375 horsepower and a segment-best 470 lb.-ft. of torque, a gain of 10 hp and 50 lb.-ft. from previous 3.5-liter EcoBoost

    - Class-leading torque of 3.5-liter EcoBoost and new 10-speed automatic transmission will deliver improved acceleration and performance

    - 3.5-liter EcoBoost paired exclusively with the first volume-production 10-speed automatic transmission available from any automaker

DEARBORN, Mich., July 11, 2016 – Ford, America’s truck leader, continues its relentless pace of innovation, delivering segment-leading torque for 2017 F-150 customers with the all-new 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6 engine and 10-speed automatic transmission.

The new second-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine will provide 50 lb.-ft. more peak torque compared with the first-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, to a segment-best 470 lb.-ft., beating all diesel- and gasoline-powered competitors, including V8 engines with nearly twice the displacement of the EcoBoost V6. Horsepower jumps 10 from the previous version, to 375 hp.

“The 2017 Ford F-150 now delivers the best torque in the segment,” says Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, Product Development, and chief technical officer. “This class-leading torque arrives with a transformative 10-speed automatic that improves nearly every aspect of F-150 performance.”

The 3.5-liter EcoBoost in the 2017 F-150 is paired exclusively with the first volume-production 10-speed automatic transmission available to consumers from any automaker.

The more capable powertrain combination will deliver improved acceleration and performance compared with previous six-speed automatic transmissions. The new engine provides better low-end and peak engine performance, ideal for hauling heavy payloads and towing heavy trailers.

The new 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine builds on the success of the 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine and first-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine available for the 2016 F-150. The 2.7-liter and first-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost engines account for approximately 60 percent of F-150 sales.

The Ford F-150 remains the first and only truck in its segment to offer a twin-turbo gasoline engine.

The 2017 Ford F-150 goes on sale this fall.

This is the third variation of the EB truck engine in six years, so I guess we'll give them props for trying. But I don't think any other truck maker is terribly worried. The onus is on Ford to show that it has discernible benefits in the real world, and to this point they have not.

I'll take my 6.2L V8 over this any day. Why are they touting that this engine has a mere 10lb ft torque higher than mine, and has to accomplish this with twin turbos? Put a twin turbo on mine and it would make it 700HP and TQ.

The biggest problem with the EB is the weak exhaust note. You just can't beat that classic V8 rumble.

Why would they be worried? The F-Series is already the best selling truck and stretched it's lead even further last month.

Cool! I have yet to drive an EB, but am afraid to taste the honey.

And yet it's GM with the Canyonados that have really moved the needle with market share in the segment, mainly with retail.

Let's be frank: Ford talks a lot. They talked when they introduced EB, they talked a lot when they introduced aluminum bodies, they're talking a lot about the 10-speed. And it's all added up to bupkus.

I like how Ford makes it seem like people are purposefully taking the Ecoboost with the 60% take rate deal.

I really want to drive one of these those but I doubt I'll ever be in the full size market. Too expensive and just way too big anymore.

    Re: 2017 Ford F-150 with All-New 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 Nets Best-in-Class V8-Beating

The ecoboost is a sweet engine. When I bought mine GM was still on the 900 platform and I was itching for something new. It's plenty powerful, smooth right up to the upper reaches of the tach, and tows the average trailer quite well. I see the turbo power delivery as the only advantage to a traditional V8, it's nice to have that quick surge of power on a tickle of the throttle. However, there is absolutely no fuel mileage benefit that I've seen in my ownership, and I won't be keeping mine much past warranty. It was a novel idea, It sure won't sway me to another Ford, in fact I'd be more excited to learn they are bring back the 6.2 with 400+hp and the 10 speed. The first time at the wheel of my Dad's 16 Denali with the 6.2 had me lusting after a V8 again.

My Volt has a pretty weak exhaust note too, but the torque is a blast...................

I have to say it ... When a F150 rolls around, with all LED front and back, with turbo whistle and start-stop.... it's hard to comprehend hw trucks went from rough-and-tumble to this in .what .. 15 -20 years?
