2017 Ford Escape: FoMoCo gives the people what they want

Not sure if I missed the post someplace, but did anyone start a thread on the updated 2017 Ford Escape?

    If not then....

Updated Styling, Better Tech, And Improved Storage Round Out Mid-Cycle Refresh
    Nov 17th 2015

    Steven J. Ewing

Fun fact: The Escape is Ford's second best-selling vehicle right now, behind the F-150 pickup. Some 306,212 Escapes found homes in 2014, putting the Escape right behind the Honda CR-V in the incredibly popular small crossover segment. Ford is on track to sell even more Escapes in 2015, and that's before this heavily refreshed model even hits dealers.

The theme for the 2017 Escape refresh is giving the customers what they want. This redesign is an execution of Ford listening to customers who asked for more interior space, better storage solutions, and improved design. That's all found in this new model – it looks a lot nicer, and appears larger to our eyes, though it's still roughly the same size. Most of the sheetmetal is totally new, with only the roof, windshield, rear glass, and doors carrying over. Ford says its customers "equate quietness to quality," and to that end, improved insulation, more aerodynamic side mirrors, acoustic glass, and an underbody shield add to the Escape's already quiet ride. Other new or revised exterior features include LED taillamps, redesigned wheels, active grille shutters, and a windshield wiper defroster.

Re: 2017 Ford Escape: FoMoCo gives the people what they want

I stated this in another post, but the MCE/refresh of the Escape makes GM's attempt at updating the Equinox and Terrain look like a joke.

Ford did a lot of work to an already solid product. This will only help them maintain momentum, build further buzz, and keep them on the radar of more customers.

By comparison, GM didn't even touch the interior of the Nox/Terrain when it made it's update and gave them only subtle (and some would say, "ugly") front fascia updates.

There's obviously some differences. The Nox/Terrain will get all new replacements soon and the updates were only placeholders. Furthermore, the Escape is a huge seller for Ford and is a newer product.

Yet, that only underscores the need to make updates in a timely fashion, make a bigger effort when executing them, and not treat any updates as a half-a$$ed attempt. In the case of GM, their update appears almost condescending compare to what Ford did.

The market is moving quickly and there's lots of good products from competitors. I hope GM takes that to heart before their next product update.

You are making a whole lot out of nothing with Nox/Terrian.

First off, I think the Nox changes look great. Secondly, like you said, brand new Equinox and Terrain are right around the corner...How much did you want GM to change? Would Ford have made big changes to the Escape if a new one was right around the corner?

you are comparing apples to oranges.

It looks like a freaking Hyundai. They ruined it.

I'm sure it'll sell, but I think that at least appearance wise, it's worse than what it used to be.

I do not like the Edge inspired front end at all. It doesn't fit the sides.

As far as the updates, the Escape needed them pretty bad. GM has technically done two MCEs on the twins when they gave them the touchscreen for the center stack. Even with that, the twins are ridiculously good on the interior side. They were built great.

The comment that the updates on the Equinox and Terrain.. two vehicles that have are due for replacement next year after 7 years on the market and stellar sales thru out is the travesty. The Escape has been out for two year.. and has been riddled with problems since the first one pulled out the factory. Update? They should have did a REDO

I knu before I clicked on the thread that someone was gonna try and dukey on the Thetas. GMI... Wow. Any one wonder why GM has this site on the Blacklist for test runs now U kno.

Reminds me of the Silverado MCE.

As far as the Escape needing the updates:

    2015 Chevrolet Equinox LTZ

    2015 Ford Escape Titanium

I fail to see where the 'Nox/Terrain is leaps and bounds better than the outgoing Escape in the interior department. They're both filled with cheap plastic, but the Escape had more tech and convenience features than the Equinox. The only thing the GM twins had on the Escape was the flexible second row seating.

I must say that the Escape has not aged well...

    Still a solid product, though.

Interior really didn't change with the Escape. Just more buttons. While both are filled with plastics the Theta's are nicer. They are just more solid. No creaks or groans and no popping. The twins also had size on their size on the interior by a LONG shot. It's not even close.

Plenty of suggestions (most of which are small things) on how to improve GM's current line-up have been made on this site. GM has taken very few of these ideas to heart. They absolutely refuse to listen to their customer base.

The vast majority of GM's current product is good, not great. They need great to really make headway in this market.

Ford, on the other hand, has actually listened to what the customer wants and they're being rewarded for it.

Explorer, Focus, Mondeo/Fusion is a very mediocre products. Expedition old as hell. F-Series is the ugliest truck on the market. Ford Ranger? No, not in North America.

Lincoln lineup is an imitation of luxury.

    Ford's customers want it?

The Fusion has been absolutely vital in proving that American manufacturers can build excellent sedans. It's consistently at the top of the American mid-size sedan sales chart, which isn't something that GM can say.
