    Re: 1 August Inventory

GM's looking pretty disciplined. Got some nice DII numbers up there. Not too worried with 119 for CT6. It's still new and a niche car anyway.

Camaro though, not looking good. Fiat should end it all, just pack it up and go back to Torino.

Looks like C7 sales have slowed.

    Wrangler is looking strong.

    Camaro vs. Mustang/Challenger...ouch.

Not really, the numbers suggest 30k this year.

    Re: 1 August Inventory

They have the sports car market to themselves, but as was the case with C6 it looks like it will be the Grand Sport that will lift them out of the doldrums and become the bulk seller.

By the same token the ZL1 will help boost Camaro sales. Overall GM is doing well with inventories and this aspect of their business doubtless helped with their superior quarterly financial report.

ZL1 won't boost sales all that much, it isn't a high percentage trim.

The MKX and MKC are really struggling, I thought they would have done better considering the segment.

I wouldn't bet the farm on that statement. I'm not saying it'll boost sales by a huge amount, but it will help somewhat. More importantly, it's rather unlikely that ZL1 sales will be fleet-it should boost the Camaro's retail take percentages even higher.

Actually, that would be an interesting side-discussion... given the Camaro has demonstrably higher retail percentages than some competitors and the Corvette is nearly all retail, is having a larger inventory that big a deal? For that matter: how is inventory calculated, given that some dealerships have branch outlets that cater exclusively to fleet? If a vehicle is pre-ordered for a lot like that how would it affect overall numbers?

The Camaro arguments sound a lot like the ATS ones.

    "wait til the coupe"

    "wait til the V"

Sales are as low as they've ever been.

Again, I am neither downplaying nor overhyping the Camaro's sales numbers. They are what they are.

I just want an answer to my follow-up.

    Yes.

Days Supply = (Vehicle Inventory at the end of the month)/(Average DSR for the month)

According to Automotive News, the numerator includes vehicles at dealerships, factory lots, ports of entry and in transit. A pre-ordered vehicle is tabulated "in inventory" the month it's at a dealership, factory lot, port, or carrier - not necessarily the month when the order is placed.

Lincoln has struggled with tepid demand for its products for a long time. The brand lacks a meaningful identity.

5th Gen averaged about 200/month for the ZL1. ZL1 and Z/28 are blips in the sales stats.

Fleet for Camaro went from mid-high teens to around 8-10%. Enough to be noticeable but not enough to account for being down 36% over May-July.
