One tip I learned from the guys who tint my vehicle glass. To get really clean glass, mix a solution of 1/2 quart warm water, add 3-4 drops of baby shampoo, in a clean old spray bottle. Spray liberally on the glass and wipe off with microfiber cloth. The baby shampoo cuts any grease & oils on the surface, and takes any streaks with it when you buff it off. This lasts longer than any commercial product I've tried and leaves the glass clear for a long, long time. Combined with the horizontal/vertical wiping, this would be the cleanest I've ever seen glass!

I use cheap(weak) paint thinner. It's a little slow but works. I have left a small cloth soaked in thinner on the tree sap and came back 15 minutes to let it soften. Rub back & forth till it gone.

The interior windshield has always been the bane of my existence, I'm on the shorter side and my cars have always been massive. I've never bothered to try the newspaper trick though. Between washes I use the California Duster to remove as much of the dirt as possible and then go over it with Barrett-Jackson Spray Wax and a microfiber towel, it does a beautiful job for something that can be done in just a few minutes. In addition, I keep a duster in the pocket of my door for a quick wipe down of my dash, it keeps the interior looking brand new between detailings.
