Update - went w/ black bed rails.

so, i decided to go with the black rails and i installed them this afternoon. i figured the chrome would be too much- especially with the 8 foot bed, and i like the black theme im beginning to develop. here are the before and after pics:

    thanks guys for the input.

Were it my truck I'd go with chrome. It would play nicely off the chrome door handles. Add some side pipes and that truck would be badass.

I don't like your door handles right now 'cause you've got black plastic flares and they really jump out at you because your wheels are almos black--Mustapha's right though IMO. Chrome rails would probably be less scratch prone too. I could be wrong, but the more I think about it the beter your truck's going to look with the chrome.

Whatever you do, post some pics when you're done.

    hmmm interesting points of view...

also believe it or not i was thinking of taking the door handles off-theyre just chrome covers. i have the tailgate handle too.

it may also be worth noting that i plan on getting steps too eventually- not sure about those either...

I say get black IF you remove the chrome handles.

BUT, I think that chrome rails would play nicely off of your bumper, the chrome lips on your wheels, and the chrome ding-guards on your door. They would play nicely off of the horizontal chrome elements you already have going on.

They'll be made of box-tubing right?

Yeah, square or rectangular tubing vs. Round tubing. In any case, it seems like you are working on a tasteful blackout, so Id say go with the black. With the removal of the dent guards and the handle covers, chrome bed rails would look out of place

round. it was probably going to be either the black or chrome version of these:

those are the strongest ones i can find. 1000 lbs per corner (most of the others are 500). although im not sure if the description is right, still looking.

100 views and only 3 guys have an opinion? dang.

thanks chase, mustapha, and 2648562 for throwing in your two cents. maybe this'll get the ball rolling for others:

heres a quick photochop i did in paint with chrome and black rails (i also took off the chrome door strip):

both look good i think. the chrome looks more showy, and the black looks more rugged though...

Re: picking bed rails, need opinions, please help.

The black does look tough. I think, being a long bed, the chrome might jump out at you a little too much.

The chrome handle covers will defiinetly have to go if you go with the black.

I'm kinda curious what it would look like if you put the chrome GMC body side molding on. Then again, it might not match the grill so well.

Black was definitely the right choice, great looking truck you've got there.
