Some Things That Suck End Up OK (and Some Just Suck)

My car suffered twice in the last week. Firstly, the rear passenger tyre kept going down, so I took it down to get a repair. No can do - a big crack in the back of the rim.

I never was really in love with the wheels since I took my original set off and put them on my wife's car, and it was going to cost $325 for a new rim alone. So onto ebay I went and what did I find ? A set of the exact wheels I wanted with a Best Offer price of $690. I offered $550 and he accepted, so now I have two cars with Calais International wheels.

    After

However, you may have noticed the front fender on the wagon does not look quite right. My wife's grandmother died last weekend, and after finding out, my wife was not fully with it, and backed out of the garage while my car was still behind.

Not as much damage to her car

On the upside, the new wheels look better! As for the scrape, I'm sure it doesn't mean as much as it might have a month ago. It's just metal. I'm yet to figure out to get 2 commodores.

Honestly, bent cars don't upset me too much. As long as the occupants are OK, that's what insurance is for. I don't usually have to claim against myself though...

    Thanks for the thoughts guys.

Never nice to see your cars damaged but if it had to happened, 3 km per hour in the driveway is better than out on the highway. And your harder-to-repair RX7 was spared, so I'd say things aren't too bad.

Sounds like your wife had a bad week, you're probably out buying her flowers!

Years ago, friends had a similar situation to the scrape. Insurance required they pay the deductible for both cars. Curious as to what your experience with that part will be.

I'm sorry about the stretch of luck. When it rains, it pours. The wheels do look pretty awesome, though.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

The wheels do look good however, so well done in that regard.

Hopefully things will be back to normal soon.

Yikes, isszy ... sorry for your family's loss ... thoughts/prayers en route.

And ... cars can be repaired/replaced ... people can't. Still sucks about the damage, though. I've done some things like that in my day... .

I have finally got around to putting the insurance claim for this. I knew I would have to pay an excess so I wanted to make sure I had the money.

In the first enquiry I made I was told exactly what your friend was told - that I would have to pay two excesses - $1100 all up. I then spoke to the panel beater who is a neighbour who said the damage to my wife's car would be less than $550, so we could claim on mine and do hers privately.

So I ring up the insurance company and submit the claim, tell them exactly what happened, even told her we would not be claiming against my wife's car, and at the conclusion, the woman on the other end said 'there will be no excess on this claim and will not affect your no claim bonus'. I thought maybe she made a mistake or that we would get an excess bill in the mail.

But no, on further investigation the damage for my car will be repaired as a no fault repair, and we will only pay an excess on my wife's car if we claim (which we wont). Sometimes things work out OK.

So when all is said and done, new wheels, pay less than $550 for the wife's car and nothing for yours with no costs increase. Sounds like the cars part wound up in the "Some Things That Suck End Up OK" category.
