After four years with a 2005 Chevrolet Impala LS and 40,000 miles while on kid/college duty it was starting to have some issues that I didn't want to deal with. I was offered a fair trade in and figured it was time to move onto a new car.
When I purchased my Torrent over five years ago it was decided that we would move up in size/price to a Trailblazer/Envoy type of vehicle. Once the GMT-360's went away after 2009 options in the mid-size six cylinder BOF SUV market began to dwindle. The sole survivors are the Xterra and 4Runner.
Before I made my mind up, I drove an Equinox LT AWD V6, Enclave AWD, Tahoe LS 4WD, Pilot EX 4WD, Highlander SE 4WD and 4Runner SR5 4WD. At the end of the day I loved the Tahoe. The fact remained it was nearly 10K more than I wanted to spend and was too much truck for my needs. The Equinox was just to small and was a real pig on gas for the size. The Enclave was great looking but pretty long and still not BOF for light duty towing needs. The Pilot drove fine but I couldn't adjust to the look. The Highlander was a nice size but couldn't hold a candle to 4.0L BOF 4Runner. At the end of the day the 4Runner fit my needs the best.
I ended up getting a 2013 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD in Blizzard White Pearl with Sand Beige cloth interior and four options, premium paint, power front driver and passenger seat with sport cloth, carpeted floor mats and mud guards. I really like the vehicle it fits my needs perfectly. I couldn't justify buying a car from GM that didn't suit me just because GM made it. So far I am impressed with it especially the fuel economy in town I am averaging better than the Torrent.
I am sad I wasn't able to get another GM product but that is what happens when GM refuses to serve market segments they once did.
