One Smooth Year in a Regal Turbo

It has been one year since I purchased my 2012 Buick Regal Turbo Premium One from Ourisman Buick in Alexandria, VA. Overall it has been a very satisfying 8300 miles or so. Pictures are from today's pre-winter wash and wax.

This photo was before I wiped down the dash. Sorry about the dust.

This version of the Regal is a great combination of what I liked best about my previous two cars (2006 Buick LaCrosse CXS (comfort and quiet) and 2009 Pontiac G8 GT (handling and speed)).

Loves: Interior and handling; ease of replacing the front vehicle lights.

Like: Fuel Economy. My Onstar phone app says the vehicle has a lifetime 21MPG so far. Far better than the G8 GT and slightly better than LaCrosse CXS. Best highway mileage I have seen is 31.5 MPG on a 300 mile trip to the Poconos recently.

Dislike: Narrowness of the trunk. I always have my golf clubs in the car. Would be nice to have that 2013 Malibu-sized trunk but I will live with it. A smaller stand bag is much cheaper than a new car. It was a bit of a stretch but we can get a family of three’s worth of vacation luggage in the 14.1 feet of trunk.

This the typical load in my trunk.

Things I have done to the car: Window tint; cargo tray; all weather floor mats; Sylvania Ultra Star headlight bulbs; Polk Audio speakers to replace the base speakers; and a few universal panel pins to keep the hood insulation better in place.

Would I buy it again? Yes. Still would have preferred the Premium Group Two but none were in the area when I purchased. I will live without the LED accents.

One feature that seemed to grab attention is the 110 Volt outlet in the back. It caught more than a few passengers attention for some reason.

Currently there are 0% for Months PLUS $2500 cash back or $3500 cash back on remaining 2013 Regals. A great deal for anyone in need of a competent sporty sedan.

Thanks. I do miss having a garage to keep my vehicles inside. Many days I would rather be detailing cars than dealing with the world of cubicles and meetings. Someday.

Nothing really. Somebody scrapped my paint in a Metro parking lot and I had Maaco repair it. Nothing I would call quality or manufacturing defect. Hope it stays that way.

Thanks for the annual report, Hitman. Glad to see you're enjoying your Regal. Sucks you have no garage. We've been there, but as long as you're not under evergreens that drip sap things will be OK.

Retirement will come soon enough. We both are so grateful we don't have to deal with the BS today, it gets deep at times.

It was real and it was fun but it wasn't real fun.

Beautiful vehicle! I sat in the 2014 Regal at the Texas State fair and was a little shocked at the bad fit and finish. The was a big gap between the radio head unit and dash and the wood trim was misaligned and had come loose. Is your Regal Oshawa made, and do you have any fit and finish issues?

Dont judge cars that have been on the show circuit. Its amazing what people do to them. I've seen armrests missing, steering wheel buttons broke, gear levels gone and just all kind of crap.

I've been in quite a few Regals and they "feel" like the best built for the price range. The door closing sound reminds me of a $60k car.

    Good update!

As I said when the 2014 specs were announced, if I was forced to get a new car that the wife could drive, it would easily be a turbo Regal.

Stop carrying that golf bag around and your avg MPG would go up a bit.

Still don't get the T4 vs V6 when the FE is the same. I'll take a NA V6 anyday.

Agree the extra 25lbs of stuff in the trunk does not help FE.

Lacrosse's tiny trunk kept me from buying it. Next vehicle will have an Impala-like trunk or be a CUV (because domestic wagons are a non-existent).

Hitting little white balls during lunch keeps me from hitting co-workers during the work day. We have a 9 hole course with a good practice facility about .2 miles from the gate where I work. I will take the mileage hit in the name of sanity.

As for fit and finish. It is excellent for the price I paid. If you start looking under seats and putting your nose less than six inches from stuff you can see where some cash was saved. I will comfortably say it is the best interior I have owned but not by a huge margin.

That big golf bag only weighs 25lbs? wow, I would have guessed 50+. But that was just a guess. Yeah, 25 lbs is not likely noticeable and certainly not worth the effort of putting it in and out.

There's an M4 and a Beretta in there too, both with 500 rounds. These are contingency items should TSHTF during lunch. And the extra weight helps the caddy (not the Cadillac, that's different) develop leg, back, core, and arm strength! It's all good.

Glad to hear it's been a good ride for you!

You've put more miles on it than I have my ATS in a year...only at 5,600 on mine.
