My New Drive and My Next Door Neighbour's New Car

This is the Members Garage section. Well, it is about my garage.

The old facade to my garage was a very 90's cream and my drive has always been crushed rock. It was dusty and uneven and the council installed concrete apron was on the wrong angle.

We decided not to do the traditional concrete drive. Concrete drives don't seem to age well, and I was very happy with the ashphalt drive we had at our last place, so we went for a bitumen drive with second hand concrete bricks as a border.

The garden was a dry creek bed, so we wanted to keep in with the theme, hence no straight lines.

We are really happy with the result. We also painted the garage door to contrast. I have since fitted a new black front door, but no photos yet.

An the black Commodore SS-V in the background is my neighbour's new car - replaced his XR6. Nice.

Thanks. Definitely Holden Street. Out of the nearest 9 houses, next door has the SS-V and a VY Acclaim, two doors down have an Astra, on the other side of the road there is a VT Executive, VX Berlina, VE International (see below), VX Calais, VY Acclaim, plus my two VY Berlinas. There are also four Prados though.

I hate your neighbor, I need to see his wife, and perhaps then, I will want both his wife and his car. For now, I just want his car

    Nice work!

I saw the tow hitch/ball on your neighbor's car. So I am wondering out loud if a Pontiac G8 can tow my boat.....hmmmm.

Admit it, this was really just to rub our noses in the fact that your neighbor has a new Holden while we in the northern half can't.

What's the boat's package weight? I can't get a good estimate on the size from the picture in your sig.

If its in the neighborhood of 4000lbs and you are willing to install some stuff on a G8 GT and downsize the rims, then you probably could.

Appologies in advance for what seems like a thread hijack. Boat is ~5k lbs with full gas and gear. So it's close, but maybe a bit beyond what I'd consider safe.

The G8 (Holden) is a great looking car. The more I see, the more I want. The Ausies may not know how good they have it.

Yeah - melting snow was not on my list of reasons for the drive. Snow has not settled where I live in the last 20 years.

4200kg is the load limit on the Commodore I believe, so it is a bit shy. I have a 3200kg hitch on my wagon.

I think you mean lbs Isszy

How much was it for the ashphalt? Doesn't really matter now because we have a pebble driveway now (which I forgot we had already paid for in the building contract!). Just interested.

I'm also interested in the cost

If it's comparable to doing it yourself driveway then i'd consider it in our new house

Original quote was $3.8K but we got some extra brickwork done and removing the concrete slab cost more than expected. Total was just under $5K. Concrete was more expensive.
