My new 1996 Buick Riviera (Pictures)

A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I followed up on a craigslist ad, purchasing a 1996 Buick Riviera with 51,000 miles. The car was located about 1-mile from my home -- a one owner car that was impeccably maintained.

The car has the normally-aspirated 3800 Series II V6, and is finished in Light Jadestone Metallic with Jadestone interior.

The Riviera now serves as my daily driver -- 36-mile round trip to work each day -- and I positively love it!

I realized later that I had the steering wheel turned upside down when I shot this interior photo, but you get the idea:

I used to like this car a lot, and there were a lot in my area especially in this color and a very light shade of tan.

I drove a '96 SC Riviera up until a couple of years ago. Not nearly as nice as yours though.
Truly was a fun car to drive. I hope to own another someday!

    Love the color of yours.
I swear 98% of them including the one I owned were painted Stone Beige Metallic.

Calling upon my years of experience, I froze at the controls.

Definitely the epitome of the "old man" stereotype of Buick.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great find

    Nice find

(Hope the front wheels weren't straight when that interior shot was taken)

The eighth gen Riviera is the only modern Buick I admire...... I'd buy one if it was clean and had low miles like yours.

Odd comment. If this one is the epitome of the "old man" stereotype, I guess I should have bought a Century 4-door sedan to improve my image.

When these Rivieras were introduced, the auto magazines gushed that the car's shape would have been beautiful as a Lexus or Infiniti. Perhaps it needs one of those nameplates to avoid the stereotype. Actually, though, I would really rather drive a Buick.

I loved these, I sold them new. They were a fantastic car. A tough sell, at the time, the SUV craze was just hitting its full stride at the time. 100 mph in these felt like 70.

Beautiful car... I know some folks don't like these last gen Rivs, but I absolutely love them. Great personal luxury coupes they were... Nice power with the SC engine, and very comfortable seats...

GM did a beautiful job on the exterior - enjoy it!!!!!!

I've always been intrigued by the styling, it's a big car - some angles it looks huge to me, others it looks small.

One of the most distinctive head-turners of the 90s. Still looks great!

I always thought these were gorgeous cars, and love the interiors. I forgot how big they were, though.

Same chassis as the Aurora, right?

I'm 30, so keep in mind where my perceptions stem from.

To be quite honest, it's not the actual "shape" that gives me the vibe; rather, it's the color -- especially that interior. There is nothing about it that screams youth (or young professional) -- which we know Buick had no interest in attracting such buyers at that time.

But anyway, it's purely subjective. Like I said, I like it for what it represents.

Correct... GM G Platform... A derivative of GM/Cadillac's old K Platform. This last gen (for now ) Riviera utilized the 3.8 V6 & 3.8 V6 Super Charged. The Aurora received their exclusive L47 4.0 V8 derivative of the Cadillac NorthStar, with second gen Auroras also receiving the LX5 3.5 V6 (ShortStar)...
