My Blue Topaz 2013 Volt Comes Home

The day has come and last week I picked up my beautiful 2013 Blue Topaz Chevrolet Volt. I have the pebble beige cloth seats with comfort package and safety package 1. So far loving the car. And loving sport mode. Surprised to see the rear arm rest with the cloth seats. I'm thinking it came with the comfort package. Certainly a nice surprise.

I traded my 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan in (spent $320/month on gas). Gas here is currently $1.29/L ($4.88/US gal) I drive about 24000 km's per year (15000 miles). It's our only car for my wife and I. My round trip commute is 25miles. I normally pick up my wife from work which adds another 10miles to my usual daily driving. I'm trying to gain access to a plug at work. It would be nice for the winter.

My first day going to work my Car showed a conservative 61km range. When I got to work (21km distance) it showed 46km's remaining. It was nice and cool in the morning (about 65F) so fan only was put to use. I work in engineering so lately I have spent a fair bit of time explaining the car and giving some rides at lunch.

Love the car! So far very happy. The new power flow screen in the 2013's is very nice too. I also delt with Schlueter Waterloo Chevrolet. A good honest dealer with no BS. The are so far the #1 Volt dealer in Canada and I can see many reasons why.

Last weekend took the car on a road trip to London, Ontario. It was ~200kms round trip. I managed 77.6km on the battery and burned 7.5L of gas. It's the only gas I have burned so far in the car (with the exception of 0.2L I burned to demonstrate hold mode to my co-workers and show them how quiet the engine is).

Congrads on the new ride, if you don't mind me asking did you get any type of deals on it. I've been thinking about one of these for a while or an Equinox 4cyl. I think the range that this car gets on the battery alone I would most likely use next to no gasoline per month.

I didn't get any deals. But was able to get a reasonable value on my trade.

    Nicely done... great ride!

So what's changed with the power flow screen in the 2013 model?

In the main DIC LCD there is now a power flow screen option that shows exactly how many KW are going too or from the Battery and from the ICE. This screen is listed among the display options for Trip, tire pressure, etc...

It is very good at showing exactly how much power is going where at any instant. For example when I drive to work there is this one gentle long down hill slope into a river valley. When I maintain 90km/h down this slope I can actually regenerate between 1 - 2 KW of (instantanious) energy in this section. I find it can help you to drive more efficient.

    Very cool.

If you get a chance to snag a shot I'm sure the crowd would be interested.

I really appreciate the Blue Topaz, and I hope that you enjoy it in good health.
I want a car so violent that the mere thought of full throttle would cause a heart attack. That actually going wide open throttle in would result in nothing less than instant death!
