Introducing Turbo, my 2012 Chevrolet Sonic!

I finally picked up my new car today, a Crystal Red Tintcoat 2012 Chevrolet Sonic LT Turbo. She's got the Cruise & Connectivity package and that's all I wanted. Here are some photos, I know you're all waiting for them.

First impressions? Lots of power from the li'l 1.4L Turbo, great shift action from the 6-Speed gearbox, smooth highway ride, ultra quiet for a subcompact, love the instrument cluster, just enough room for 4 adults, cheap headliner and center stack plastic, OK audio from the 6-Speaker system, great fuel economy so far for not being broken-in yet, 15" wheels are too small (there should be a 16" option for the Turbo like there is for the 1.8L) and the technology is great, I just wish it had MyLink like the Equinox, Volt and upcoming Spark and Malibu.

Oh, and here's a shot of OnStar's RemoteLink in action:

I want to say thanks to Mike Shuck at Buckalew Chevrolet for helping me out and being a great salesman.

Nice ride, congrats! Personally I think it might look a little silly with bigger wheels, but to each his own.

Congrats. I've only seen one on the road so far here and that was just a glimpse as it darted by. That's one of my favorite colors, period. What about your new Caddy? And how do you like living with the digital speedometer?

    Brak?

Small, but it doesn't look cheap.

    Thanks guys!

My Caddy is torn apart so I can replace the heater core, then I have to track down a speed sensor issue after already replacing the speed sensor/hub assembly. When I get everything fixed the bitch is gone. I'm going to lose money, but I don't want to spend any more on repairs.

As for the digital speedo on the Sonic, the cluster is one of my favorite features. I love the big tach and digital readouts for everything else. It really is like a motorcycle cluster.

Probably a wise move, as it's most likely going to nickel and dime you to death. And it sounds impossible to work on.

    Enjoy the new car!

    Thanks!

I just figured out the Bluetooth system and iPod/iPhone integration. It's not as straightforward as the system on the Nissan cube I was originally wanting, but it works well. Also, I can stream music over Bluetooth from my iPhone while I await a call to take over Bluetooth. Pretty cool feature, but you have to control the music directly on the phone and the sound quality isn't as good as the USB hookup. Plus, on my iPhone 4S, Siri works by using the 'Voice' command on the voice command. So now I can text while I drive and do it with no hands.

Here's a photo for no reason:

One thing I found that I don't like is the fact that GM cheaped out on the backlighting for the power window switches. Only the driver's window switch is lit on the main control and no other door has a lit switch.

That switch lighting is rather odd. I think I'd have preferred a single light shining from above or in the switch well. With only one button lit it looks broken.

Congrats on the purchase! Looks sharp.

Congratulations! I test drove the sedan version of this exact car - Crystal Red LT turbo - last week and loved it. It's amazing how refined small cars are these days. It was extremely quiet and solid. I really like the 1.4T and the shift action of the 6-speed. This should alleviate a lot of worries for you about what gas prices will do.

The only thing that bugged me was the folding armrest on the driver's seat. I found it too high to be able to shift comfortably.

HOT... very HOT. The car, not you, so don't get any ideas Tell us how it rides after you throw it around a bit.

One question though. How did you go from a $300K Lamborghini to a Sonic? I mean I am a domestic lover thru and thru, but even I will admit that a Lamborghini is a wee bit more desirable car. Am I missing something?

Congratulation Andrew, That was a perfect choice. It looks really nice. I did not know you could get a connectivity package on one
