I bought another non-GM truck today, and I eat my hat!

I'll get the ugly out of the way. I bought a RAM....yup the hat tasted like dirt too! Short story, my leased 17 F150 got stolen and was not recovered within 15 days so insurance simply paid it out. I've been using my old 2004 6.0 F350 farm beater for my daily work duties and frankly it's well past its prime and could have a fatal breakdown any moment now. I'd rather keep it alive for hauling 1000lb hay bales in the field a few times per month, not asking much from it in it's golden years and this way no costly tow bills if it calves.

So enter truck shopping. First, I didn't want to lease or finance...cash deal.Done. Simple. Second the new rig had to be a 3/4 ton (again, lack of trust for the old stroker pushed me here) Third It had to be used, can't afford 50K (Canadian) to spend on a new one. Plus with the new GM 3/4 tons being at least 2 years out I figured I'd better do something quick.

Wanted a GM, but they're pricey. The premium is big for a GMC 3/4 ton...even gas pots. Ford's are tough one, can't get an alumaduty in the price range I was looking at, go down to the pre-17 Super Duty and it feels like a truck from 20 years ago....not much better than my 200K 2004. Plus the Ford 6.2 doesn't impress me much.

So I looked at a few Rams. Get this, got a 2016 RAM 2500 outdoorsman crew 4x4 with under 39k for $31,500 Canadian, just under 25K USD. Man, these things ARE cheap! A comparable GM/Chev was 7-8,000 more and that's without some of the features that came with the Ram (basic sle and LT) I hope it lasts, the hemi scares me to bits with the never ending valvetrain/camshaft/ issues, but I'll be nice to it and pray to the god of Ram electrical systems daily. I'll be certain to keep up on the good and ugly of owning a FCA product. My past experience in the fleet business had me putting little faith in the reliability of their products. Plus, I've gotten so many good years out of one of the worst truck engines in history (my early 6.0 diesel) I figure the 4 leaf clover in my wallet works to some degree.

Pick it up friday. And i'll post pics of the awful pos then. And some say I'm biased and a GM fanboy...Ha!!

Hope you have better luck with yours than I did with the one I got rid of yesterday.

I've had my 2014 2500 6.4 Laramie for over 3 years now. Other than oil changes and a couple of minor recalls, I've had only one issue. Had a front axle u joint replaced under warranty. That's it. Truck runs like a champ.

I was in the same boat as you, always had GM trucks with a couple of Ford's thrown in there. Couldn't justify the price premium when I went shopping last time.

Gotta say I'm impressed with this truck. Next time around I'll be shopping GM as well but until then, I have no complaints whatsoever.

Enjoy the new Truck, and give it a chance! LOL

Congrats!! Does that have the 6.4L Hemi? Myself and my friend have had the 5.7L which have been very reliable - its the last thing I worried about in my truck.

It's just the 5.7. I do some big miles for work as I'm all over the place so it'll get a good test for sure, lots of rough and muddy lease roads. When the new GM Hd's hit I might get one or wait a year to trade up.

The Outdoorsman is a pretty nice package over all.

You're certainly right too! For the features that are available the prices arent even close.

Is your a two tone one? I cant remember if they stopped doing that for the Outdoorsman.

So, how are things working out with your RAM? Do you feel like you should have gotten a 2019?

It's fine. Part of the power seat switch has given up the ghost (the rear tilt function) It's a gas hog (totally to be expected for a big 3/4 ton) I like the screen between the speedo/tach, a nice easy to use and informative unit. It's a work truck and gets the job done. Happy overall, the price was so right I really couldn't go wrong. I'll drive it till the new GM 3/4's come out and either get one of those or snag a deal on the "old" K2xx models.

Glad I didn't get an alumaduty, lots of complaints out there for those from injection pump issues, heater core failures, death wobble, alignment issues. Ford need a year or so to sort the bugs I Imagine.

Great feedback. I wonder if Ed,s Ford has ever done any work...
Are you still under warranty? You can get the seat fixed.

You assume it is the bed that is falling apart? The "bones" of the truck are more the same, than different. I cab is now the same as the 150's, which has been around almost 4 years now; not only has my bed not fallen-off, my cab hasn't either!

I would be interested in hearing details as to what exactly is falling apart.
