    electrical questions

just wanted to know if i can disconnect the positive from the battery to reset the computer to all the original settings. I bought a used 2006 gmc sierra 1500 sle with 76000 on it. well it does weird things like i open the door and put the key in and start it. with the door still open the doors lock while i am getting in!!!before i even shut the door. i have tried all the settings on the wheel and the 2 programs in the manual and even took by the gmc dealer and they couldnt figure it out. now i was going to disconnect the computer and reset, but is there anything else to reset after that or will it even work to reset all the factory settings and i will go back through and set everything myself. lights go on and off differently than they should! and well just weird things like that. the worst was the door locking. can ya help.

Do you know the history of the vehicle, accidents, ect? I don't think disconnecting the battery is going to help at all. But what can it hurt? Leave disconnected for 60 seconds.

Sounds like a wiring or PCM problem.

I dont know of any accidents but if i disconnect battery, i wont have to reset anything else just the presets on the radio. And also where is the pcm and how to fix it to or maybe give it a try too!!

The dealer can try a reflash on the PCM-they should have scanned it for trouble codes already.

All the dealer told you was "we can't figure it out?"

    Re: electrical questions

Just to help you avoid a potential headache....

Sometimes when you disconnect the battery the blend door actuators for the heat and ac modes lose their memory. So before you disconnect the battery turn all of them off and don't touch the settings again until after you reconnect the battery and they have had a few minutes to remember where they are. They go through a learning mode it seems and if you play with them before they complete their cycling, everything gets out of whack. And a trip to the dealer to reprogram will be your next stop.

Just something to file in the back of your noggin.
