Crappy Corvair I bought for donor engine

She once was a black on black 1965 Monza convertible with a 140hp 4 carb engine, but after many years of New York salt and 30 years of sitting outside, now she is a parts car for my clean 1965 Corvair Corsa which is missing its correct 140. The A pillar structure is so rotten that the drivers door sags about 4 inches when you open it! You can stand at the right rear corner of the car and see the floor on through the drivers side footwell.

This is the prize, a complete correct 140 with good compression in all 6 cylinders and 4 complete carbs, which need to be rebuilt badly.

Can't see the pictures right now, but it sounds like a lovely find! You going to install it yourself? You have the know-how? Ever attacked a project like that before? Good luck, and keep us updated... I love following the progress of projects like this with lots of photos!

Just curious, but do you have any idea of when it last ran?

    Curious what you paid.
A complete 140 motor is a great score.
    Corsa's had great instrumentation...

I've removed and rebuilt an engine before, but never on a Corvair, my friend has done several so he will be on hand to assist, the nice thing is that the engines drop out the bottom like a VW.

What are you doing to do with the rest of the Corvair?
The remains of the corps-air will go to the scrapyard most likely, I am going to strip it and take all the glass(convertible only so I can use it) along with the bumpers and top frame, steering column, etc, just leaving pretty much a shell.

    true....

$700 for the whole thing, but that included alot of NOS parts that the owner had bought with delusions of restoring this car, NOS tail lamps, cranks and door handles, an entire rear seat(not NOS but good) lots of exterior trim and parts.

Just curious, but do you have any idea of when it last ran?

NY registrations dates to 1980, it will fire and idle briefly on a prime of fuel, but she won't stay running, did a compression test and all the cylinders were good.

So are you going to rebuild the engine too, or just the carbs? How does it run?

She'll run on the prime, and there are no evil noises and good compression, since the engine is going to be out I am going to do all the seals too and slap it into my Corvair.

This is the car the engine will be going into.

That bucket seat on the driver side looks to be a high dollar mid sixties GM piece. Can't give you a pedegree because of the camera angle. If you have a pair, you might be sitting on some serious money there.

Its a 68 and up GM intermediate bucket, but I only have one, and its in sorry shape, I'm giving it to my friend who has cars that it will fit, he is also getting the new gas tank thats in the car for his Corvair.

You would think the air cleaner alone would be worth a couple hundred.

^ Is that air cleaner a 1-piece base, or does the circular unit detach from the 4-arm 'spider' ? I could see Chevy making 1 filter unit, and 2 different 'spider' set-ups, 1 for the 140 and 1 for the 110.
