Bye Bye UTE i'll miss you

After 3 years of ownership and 30 000 kms traveled tomorrow i say goodbye to My VS 5 litre UTE

While it will be sad day for sure to see her go as she still has many more miles of service left in her (currently at 137 000 kms) i need to get a vehicle to pick the kids up from school as my hours are better suited than the wifes.

I needed something to also do light towing duties so we were looking at a couple of options

All of them involved trading the UTE

Option 1 was trading on a new Cruze SRi hatch at 26k roughly as the wifes new car and me driving her VXII Berlina and using it as the tow car

Option 2 was trading on a second hand 2009 Captiva Turbo Diesel and using it as the tow vehicle and family trip car

    We went with option 2

I got a good deal on the trade only 1k less than i bought the UTE for 3 years ago

I'll post pics when i can but it's a metalic grey colour which looks really nice

Re: Bye Bye UTE i'll miss you

OK got back from our christmas trip and have some fuel ecconomy data

    and a couple more pics

Here's the trip we did - approx 1200 kays split into 3 days

1 fill before i left got us from home (wagga) to near Manly . The fuel light didnt come on on the dash but the fuel guage was getting prettty low after 600 kms driven and 54 litres average of around 9 litres per 100 kays (roughly 26 MPG for the seppos :P) this included some city driving and hills with 2 adults 2 kids and a car load of stuff and i wasnt driving slow or trying to hypermile it

Second fill got us from Manly to wagga via south of canberra which included some city driving and about 500 kays of freeway (plus about 30 kays of my brother in law doing his own performance testing)

The interesting part of this trip was the refill just before we got home which yielded exactly the same numbers as the first trip

600 kays driven 54 litres consumed for an average of 9 L/100kays

It seems the Cappy is pretty consistant over a different range of driving conditions , my next refill will be after a couple of weeks commuting to work if i can get close to those numbers i'll be pretty impressed

Congrats on your new wheels mate. What are your thoughts of the front seats? My wife likened it to sitting on a bar stool (since we've always been in the lower Commodores). Still a good practical vehicle though, and looks rather handsome too (for a truck)

Also, how is your economy going now (it's been a few weeks) and how much are you paying for diesel. It seems that diesel is currently sitting above petrol almost consistently around the $1.50/l mark in QLD.

Well, when the children leave the nest. You can get a Maloo. Though, I think this is a good reason to bring back the Crewman.
