    Bad Week For the Outlook

Our Outlook's rough week started with Mrs. Hitman backing up into a neighbors mailbox resulting in one broken tail light cover.

Parts are on order. Cost is unknown at this point. This will be my first experience with Landers-McClarty Chevrolet as they now have the Saturn Service contract in this area.

Not to be outdone while driving on I-65 North today around exit 270 or so I noticed this fine crack forming in the windshield.

The windshield is scheduled to be replaced at Glass Master tomorrow for approx. $225.

Will post updates as we go further along in the latest journey of automotive pain.

It is the laminated windshield. The replacement is laminated as well. I verified that with the replacement company.

One of about the 1,000 dump trucks and 18 wheelers I drove with today got a lucky shot.

Any word on the status of the mailbox or the stone?

Mailbox is unscathed. Just the bottom corner of a well built rural post box. If anything I am thrilled it did not do more damage.

    Stone unknown.

My dad backed the Envoy into a mailbox a few months ago.

Just a little dent in the bumper though.

I take it you have full coverage on the Outlook? If you do your insurance company might cover the full price of the glass replacement.

Re: Bad Week For the Outlook

This reminds me of the story of when our english teacher's mailbox was knocked down. In the north country, its great fun for people in large trucks to go around running over people's mailboxes.

Apparently my english teacher fell victim to this and asked a student if she ran into her mailbox. The student replied, "well yes but Daisy was driving" (a reference to the Great Gatsby). Needless to say, the student was summoned by the local police later that day.

Wait... mailbox, stone - forgot your wife!

Did she pull one of these when you discovered the crack in the windshield? That karma stuff can be deadly.

Man... Not a good week! Let's hope it sticks to those two items and doesn't become an "even three"

Luckily the tail light is something you can do yourself!

No she acknowledged backing up into something on her but getting a rock throw up into the windshield is bad luck.

I am not going to bother with insurance for the windshield. We have a $500 deductible on our policy.

That really is terrible luck mate.

As for the windscreen, in my professional MRD opinion, I would qualify it as a CFU until air comes in..... at least, that's what I've done with the Vectra.

No foul intended but $500 deductible for collision is not necessarily the same for comprehensive. WIndshield would normally fall under comprehensive.

(Some folks just don't realize that there is more than one category of insurance and they often have different deductibles.)

None taken at all. What I love about this site is knowing that I will learn something new fairly often. I checked my policy again. Your are right. My comprehensive loss is not a $500 deductible. It is $250. Still won't help me on this one but I am glad I know that information now. Thanks.
