Not to be picky (ok, I'm being picky!), but Chevy didn't offer the 427 in a Chevelle in 1970. Big block options included the "396", which actually displaced 402 ci and two versions of the 454.

Until 1970, the top factory option in the Chevelle was the 396. However, some high performance dealerships took advantage of Central Office Purchase Order (COPO) to special-order 427 Chevelle's from the factory. Those would be pre-1970 cars; by 1970, the 454 suplanted the 427 as GM's pass-car big block.

In case you are interested .... :-)

I love the 68/69 Chevelles, probably my 2nd favorite muscle car, right under the 1977/78 Trans Am SE's (Special Edition "Bandit" cars). Just something about those cars.

    I'd take a 68/69 Chevelle or a 73 Camaro. Definitely.

I love Chevelles, they're awsome cars, its just been run over by the new Camaro on this forum. People will begin to talk about it once the Camaro is out, then they'll want a new Chevelle.

chevelles are awesome. I found out a couple months ago that my uncle bought a new SS396, red/ white stripes in 68, drove it a year bought a 69 and sold the 68 to a guy that lives down the street. that guy drove it for a a year or 2 and its been garaged in original condition since then. maybe 30K miles on it?!?!?!
