1986 Monte Carlo Progress (Photography Updated 6 September)

I know how much Bravada likes my "downsized coupe designed to look like Darth Vader's mask" so here's some progress pictures from the body shop:

    On the truck:

Here it was when it arrived at the shop:

    Quarter removed:

    New Quarter mounted:

and now the quarter sanded and primed:

Went by to check it out and help the owner out with an eBay listing he has of a '70 Mach I today and got some pictures of the progress:

They fixed the big dent that was under the mirror:

and a couple of door dings:

And here's where the SS will be sitting until it's driveable, then it'll go on the bottom and the Camaro will go back up.

Painted within two weeks but I have no idea when it'll be completely reassembled. I can do the rear end a few days or so after I get the car back but there's still some stuff that we need to do to the engine before we install it (we're pretty much installing the whole thing assembled at one time so we need to rebuild the carb and order an intake manifold among other things). So the rear will come together first, then we'll put the engine and transmission in and then start putting the engine bay back together and get that all finished.

It should be done before November, though.

Yeah, Cambird Auto Body is doing it for us. We just don't have any room to do that type of thing here. They did the SS for the first repaint and they painted the Chevelle too so at least we can be sure they do a great job.

Thanks for the update pics. You may recall that I've been curious about how it's coming along. Looks like the body is moving along A-OK! The tangle of wires on the dashboard scares me a lot. Do you know how to put everything back together when you install the new one???

Yeah, I took a bunch of pictures don't worry. Once you're up close to it it's really simple. The radio and the gauge cluster are pretty much all of it. Gotta love having a simple electrical system! Well, simple until you get it together and things start going wrong.

With paint next week at best, with the engine is by the end of July, with the entire car before November.

At least, I'm hoping.. When we get the engine stuff done (what I can't do myself) is when it'll really start speeding up.

That's awesome, man. What's the hurry if you don't turn 16 until 2008 (according to your profile)?

I only drove one Monte Carlo SS before. It was a blue 1986 (I think) with a carbureted 305 (not sure if there were different 305s) and it was such a disappointing dog for a V8. But with 300 horsepower and 350 lb-ft, you probably won't have that problem.

Haha, if you had your dream car sitting disassembled in your garage you'd still want to get it done! Plus I can drive with anyone over 21 so hey hey, it all works out kind of. Except I can't drive at night until the 5th of July haha that's so lame sounding

But yeah, the L69 was the only engine you could get in this generation of Monte Carlo which was a 305 High-Output with 180HP and 240 ft-lb for 1986 so this should be a really nice difference. And those 3.73 gears should help out a bit too

The MC SS is one of the cool high school cars of my era. Your parents had money if they bought you one of those. Two people had them in my class. One was white, and one was black.

Take care of it. It is truly one of the classics from the 80's.
