    The Suzuki Kizashi thread

I'm driving Suzuki's latest compact/midsize sedan for the next week -- an SE AWD model with the CVT. Any particular questions anyone would be interested in having answered?

Saw one at the auto show. The rear doors curve in dramatically. Looks really nice. But... How do you get out of the rear seat without lopping off the top of your head or poking out an eye?

Well, one of my questions would have been the manual transmission feel.
But I guess just how the suspension is, as far as handling, composure, etc. even if it isn't an uplevel model.

I seen one at the show. Hyundai thought they had an edge in the "value vs features" area with the new Sonata. IMO, this one will give Hyundai a run for their money; and especially with the AWD option, Subaru should keep a look in their rearview mirror also.

I'd like a report on the CVT trans and the feel of the steering wheel (paddle) shifters. I believe that the AWD can be turned off for fuel economy. Can you verify? Also, check if the AWD "scrubs" during tight turns on hard dry surfaces.

This could have been a cool car if you could have got it with the manual transmission and AWD...but no, that would have just been too easy.

Meh... This car will probably help Suzuki survive but will do little impact to the main contenders. Too small for a midsize, but bigger than most compacts. Plus everything I read about it's driving dynamics is underwhelming. Although the interior is supposed to be pretty high quality.

Opinions on the Kizashi's on-road handling are all over the place
. . . it had too much roll, stability control intervened too early, and tire and bushing deflection rates weren't properly matched . . . the Kizashi "feels like a car that had very little chassis development time -- as if they switched chassis on the engineers at the last second," a distinct possibility given that the Kizashi was originally expected to be built on GM's Epsilon platform before the two automakers parted ways.
    Motor Trend

However, after an hour or two on a country road, the term "sports sedan" did not get branded into our memory bank. A little too much up and down motion in the suspension and a little too much weight over the front axle (60 percent) adds up to turn-in reluctance that amplifies as a function of speed. Ditto transient response. Steering feel is the sportiest element in the car’s dynamic portfolio, although it’s unnecessarily heavy.

    We'll see what happens though...

Well, the Sonata is at least half a size larger, inside and out. 183 inches long is Cobalt and Jetta territory -- the upper end of the compact segment.

There is an on-off button for the all-wheel-drive, but I'm not sure my driving conditions are repeatable enough to determine a gas mileage impact that would likely be just 1 mpg or so. And my test car doesn't have paddle shifters; the gear selections are on the shifter.

I can check on the other questions. So my biggest issue with the CVT is that it lugs the engine if you're driving gently -- 1200 rpm at 25 mph -- but it otherwise works very well.

It does look better in person. But I agree, it could have been a lot more interesting.

Anybody know if this is built on a Suzuki platform or is it built on another platform? I was looking at some pics of it and from some angles I get a real Epsilon vibe.

Exactly, I was kind of torn between getting the Kizashi or my current Lancer. They looked about the same size from external apperance.

The Kizashi rear is very Mazda like while the front as others noted looks very euro(a la VW).

Overall inside and out it looked like a nice vehicle but was a litle too sedate for my tastes. My dealership only had 2 base model autos on the lot, that with the fact that Im still in my 20's made me opt for the sportier Lancer.

Yeah really, that's why I didn't get an AWD Vibe back in the day. I really like this little Suzuki, though that colour does nothing for it. I like that they offer a more compact alternative to large family sedans... I know most people prefer and require more room, but for those of us that don't, something more compact (without being a true compact) is nice.

It was originally supposed to be an Epsilon, but it ended up as a smaller all-Suzuki model.
