I love the looks of the new Maxima...very imposing and "confident" looking, well executed sculpture on wheels to my eyes.

I've heard the CVT sucks the life out of this engine.

    What's your take on it?

    Re: The Nissan Maxima thread

Whats the rear visibility like on it? Thats one of the few complaints I have on mine, just wondering if it was changed over the last gen.

One other thing I just thought of is fuel economy. Mine sucks. I do about 400 miles a week of mixed city/suburban driving and only get about 19mpg according to the computer (which is usually dead on when i do manual calculations).

How do you think this stacks up value and feature-wise versus a loaded Taurus Limited or SHO? Same for 2010 LaCrosse CXS.

It's really nice to see a new car without a big mouthed grille.

I'd say just the opposite, at least compared to a regular automatic. The CVT against a powerful, rich-sounding V6 is a great application, and because it never has to kick down in routine driving (like to go up a hill) it keeps the car from ever feeling strained. Compared to a manual, of course, no automatic is lively fun.

Rear visibility isn't great, but not terrible. I've been averaging 25 mpg so far, but that's nearly all on highway driving in conditions I don't normally drive (70 mph, four occupants, mountainous terrain, a/c.)

It's a size smaller than those cars but I think a bit less expensive. Its closest alternative in the market is really the Acura TL, and I hope to be able to drive it back-to-back against this before I return it.

What's your view on Nissan offering two different cars with what seems to be very similar sizes?

I wanted to drive a (Oz Market) Maxima, but I couldn't fit. How's te accomodation, particularly the adjustability of the wheel (telscopic distance and tilt angles)?

P.S. I do enjoy your reviews Brady. Interesting and considered perspective.

I thought these were ugly when they first came out but as I see more I like them better. I almost wish I had leased a new one instead of buying because my payments would have been the same. If I didnt do so much driving and didnt already want to trade my maxima in it could have worked.

The whole front of it looks different to the old one we get here. From the A-pillar back looks the same.

It would be like if the TL were sold as a Honda instead of an Acura -- Nissan moved duplication from the Infiniti line to the Nissan line. The downside is you get Nissan service instead of Infiniti service, but the flip side is that there's a much broader network of Nissan dealers than Infiniti dealers.

    Thanks.

The tilt/telescoping wheel has a power adjustment, making it easy to fine-tune a position. I have no problems with either the tilt or telescoping range, and the front seat slides far back for the unusually long of leg.
