    It's not that it's high, it's that both of our drives/rides came up with the same 963 figure.

    He most definitely did -- there was only one there. But we weren't in it at the same time, nor was I driving it the same way as his driver, so I'd have expected the mileage to vary. Especially considering that the tiniest amount of fuel would make a difference between 962 and 963 mpg.

    For some reason, I just couldn't get comfortable in the center-rear position. It must be anti-GM bias, I suppose.

    and by using the gas engine only as a generator to recharge the electric batteries.
    The motor acts as a generator to generate the electricity required by the motor and to ensure the batteries stay at a certain level of depletion, it actually doesn't charge the batteries while you're on the go...they felt that it would severely hurt fuel consumption to do that.
