    Drove a Volt today

I was doing the drive wearing two proverbial hats: for Examiner.com and for another organization I write primarily non-automotive stuff for. I've only finished the latter so far (translate question marks into dashes on the link -- that site's formatting frequently screws up), but I'll post the more car review-style writeup with more details sometime fairly soon.

I also ran into GMI member Buick61 there -- I hope he also got a chance to drive and can post some impressions as well.

And the electric motor running from the front to the back of the car consumes what would normally be a fifth seating position.
The battery pack is what takes up the center seating position.

I was only at low speeds, but yeah, it was perfectly pleasant. The two Prius owners who had drives while I was there were particularly impressed with its pep. (Less so with anticipated prices.)

You seem to be right on that, thanks. The PR guy I spoke to seems to have misspoken. I'll try to get a correction out.

NAH. I got passenger time. They said if I got there earlier, it would have been fine. But you kids and the bloggers went overtime. But even going around the campus as a passenger was epic.

I'd like to point out that Mr. Holt's fame was what made him easily recognizable from across the alley. You only get that from being a young superstar journalist in the making.

I'll post my photos in a hot minute.

Here's one to "wet" your appetite.

This was one of the 80 largely hand-built Volts. There were some minor issues: like the driver door not closing properly. But, other than some loose fit/finish, it was remarkably production-ready.

    Congrats to both of you.

    963 miles per gallon, huh?

Funny, my drive was exactly 963 too. Maybe it's just the number they pick at a certain point.

And I don't know about the other students, but I was scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. drive and got bumped by "VIPs."

It's thanks to GM's amazing PR people. They're just so gosh darn welcoming. It's like family!

Here are some of the many, many photos I took.

    1. i think that front end is lower than my friends vette.
    2. rear visibility?
    3. that center stack is definitely interesting.

with that, this will probably be one of my next cars- my fiancee really seems to like it (and it would complement my truck and future camaro nicely lol). she likes the cruze too though.
