Cadillac CTS sport wagon is just so darn likable

    Good review.
DETROIT — Henry Ford II is quoted on why he fired Ford Motor President Lee Iacocca in 1978 as: "Sometimes you just don't like somebody." Well, it works the other way, too, and not just on people. Sometimes you just like a car.

In that case, its limitations — all cars have them — fade because the car looks good, feels right, goes with élan.

So it is with the Cadillac CTS sport wagon. It's new to the CTS line for 2010. It is nearly identical to the CTS sedan mechanically. The body panels from the rear door forward are the same. The big visual difference is the sport wagon's raised roof and its rear end.

    Good review.

I wish the SRX was as good a vehicle. I am still hoping GM puts the 3.6L in there for 2011.

Wagons just don't sell in the US. The SRX will outsell the CTS wagon ten to one. And I really like the CTS wagon.

Sales stats would indicate that the SRX is a very good vehicle.

In another thread someone told me reviews generally don't find the CTS seats favorable for long trips. I searched all over and couldn't find those sentiments and here we have this:

But front seats had an almost magical quality. Lumpy and hard (not merely firm) at first. But 520 miles and nine almost-uninterrupted hours later, the rump and back, legs and neck felt just fine.

Agreed. The wagon was never intended as a big seller. Along with the coupe, it is a relatively inexpensive way to offer variety with your best selling model. (CTS). I'm sure that most people that buy the wagon, or the coupe, are not likely to have considered a Cadillac otherwise. It's this that makes the investment/ experiment worth while.

I have seen a couple of CTS wagons on the road here in Huntsville. Very nice. I could see myself driving one..... someday.

The gripe of "stingy stowage" is unfortunately true, even though, some will say the console is storage capacity. But, I'm in agreement with this writer--I usually toss stuff (i-phone and/or wallet) on the console when I'm running errands so I remember to take it with me leaving the car. I hope the designers update this aspect of the interior center stack whenever there is a Model-Change-Enhancement slated to occur. Otherwise, I think the CTS's interior is great!

I drove 700mi in one day. From my rear end's perspective, SRX seats are NOT comfortable either.

50 grand for a station wagon? What would Ward Cleaver say?

Its such a shame that wagons have such a huge stigma still here in the US. I can only imagine this is one of the reasons.

That's been no problem in my Deville, despite the seat cooler making the cushion firmer. Perhaps you need to work on your rear end!

Seriously, I had more discomfort from my boney behind from driving before I started getting regular exercise.

Re: Cadillac CTS sport wagon is just so darn likable

I want to love the CTS wagon I really do. As everyone here knows I have an unnatural love for the station wagon body style and the CTS wagon is one very good looking example. I can live with the smallish rear seat. I can live with the roof line negating much of the usable room in the back. I can live without any towing capacity (that's what the Avalanche is for). I can even live with the unacceptable ride quality for something wearing a Cadillac badge. But I cannot live without a small block. Why Cadillac won't offer it with a 5.3L or an LS3 is beyond me.

Naw, he needs to trade that SRX in for an Avalanche. I've driven 1200 miles only stopping for fuel and my back and butt were no worse for the wear.

How is that any worse than paying 50 grand for the SRX? They're supposed to both approach $50k loaded.
