2009 Cobalt SS 1 year old review

    1 year and 13,000kms later.

The car has not been back to the dealer at this point. It should have gone back because of the rear brake pads having huge chunks of metal in the friction material carving up the rear rotors. But it wasn't worth the trip or the fight since I get parts cheap and did the job myself at our shop.

The steering column has recently started to get a little rattle like most Cobalts do.

The interior could use a few less rattles although I managed to get them quieted down somewhat after lubing all the rubber door and sunroof seals with silicone. The interior's supposed shortcomings don't bother me in the least. I've seen several Civics and Cobalts with over 200,000kms in the fleets we service and hands down, the Cobalt's holds up better to wear & tear.

Performance wise, this car really shines. You point it where you want to go it it goes with very little fuss or body roll. The LNF powerplant provides more than enough power to move this little car.

Fuel economy has been right about where I expected. Highway travel at 80mph returns about 27mpg.

I recently renewed Onstar for another year at a pretty decent discount price. Same thing for XM radio.

My name is Chris and I'm a PC....err...I mean happy GM owner.

Thanks for posting. Shopping around for a small car right now, and I'm trying to decide if I should find an older car for cheap, or take the time to check out some "newer" used cars.

    Just watch that inter cooler.

One of the hoses busted off of ours.

Did you upgrade those little rear rotors while you we're back there?

That and a dual exhaust is all this little demon needs.

Is the GM Performance Parts LNF Turbo Upgrade Kit compatible with the Cobalt SS Turbocharged? I would think so. If you haven't seen it go here:

If you go for it, have some rice for lunch...

The back of my little brother's Cobalt has a different SS/TurboCharged emblem layout.

Is that a Cobalt in your Avatar?
