Why is there no 10th generation Impala PPV?

The new models are incredibly roomy and feature a powerful 305 horsepower engine, a 132 mph top speed, a reasonable price, and a MASSIVE trunk. It's far superior to the cramped Ford Taurus based interceptor (which is widely criticized for interior space), and doesn't have a reputation for cracked exhaust manifolds like the Explorer. It also features a much lower price than the expensive Tahoe PPV. It also isn't made across the Pacific Ocean, which a lot of departments care about.

So why does Chevrolet not offer a PPV model for this car?

They are still peddling the old W body Limited for police fleets. http://www.gmfleet.com/police/impala-police-car.html

I don't think that logic makes sense when it comes to police vehicles.

It's not like National car rental. These things will not likely auctioned off until they've seen several hundred thousand hard miles. They'll essentially be scrap at that point - or most likely donated to distressed departments.

LWB epsilon isn't good for pursuit.

They need to make a Traverse PPV.

Pursuit is so 1950's - policing techniques have moved on since then.

Re: Why is there no 10th generation Impala PPV?

Because they got greedy. Really greedy. The arrogance they always had.

Bad mouth the W-body Impala all you want, but they sold in the hundreds of thousands, and the redesign, with it's greater intended ATP's, isn't selling worth a darn. I bet a reasonably priced upgraded W-body style Impala would have.

They sold incredibly well, even without the fleet sales.

So which is better, dismally embarrassing sales numbers at higher ATP's, or hundreds of thousands of sales at reasonable ATP's?

GM doesn't know the answer, and likely will never admit they totally failed.

More to the point, the actual Impala PPV was Holden, and............ well....................

Not officially. That's just a Traverse NYPD bought and slapped decals and a light bar on.

I'm talking something along the lines of the Explorer PIU or Tahoe PPV. Actually modified for law enforcement work.

That's a huge and (relatively) slow vehicle for PPV. You'd know better than me. It seems like something more the size of the Acadia would be a better option....and it is less likely to poison the guys and gals in blue with Carbon Monoxide than the Explorer.

The snug interior of the Taurus would be remedied by the massive new Impala, which itself is very quick. I imagine that a potential problem with the LWB Epsilon-based 10th gen Impala is the lower clearance and overhangs. The Taurus and Explorer sit slightly higher as did the Crown Vic.

I'm shocked that the Dodge Charger isn't getting 70% or more of the police market.

We have Chargers. They're awful. Unreliable and way too cramped.

If GM dropped a TTV6 into Traverse, it would function just fine as a patrol car. At least a cheaper option than Tahoe. That being said, everyone I know who's been issued an Explorer has begged to get a Tahoe back.

They'd probably have the same complaints about the Traverse. I could see it being very competitive with most Police Explorers, but some of those Fords actually do have the Ecoboost motor that is pretty powerful. Of course, those Fords also also leak CO into the cabin.

The Impala is definitely MUCH more roomy than the Charger and Taurus. They do offer I'm surprised the Charger is considered unreliable, as the model has been around for such a long time now. My area has some Charges and Impala Limited models from a couple of years ago. The newer Chevy PPVs are all Tahoes.

The state troopers do have some Caprice and Silverado PPV models though.

https://www.gmfleet.com/overview/police.html Interesting picture for the 2018 Impala on Chevrolet's police website though:
