What would the world be like?

Back in 2007/08, GM had masterful plans for a 2010 Impala. One that would be using the wonderful Zeta platform. Unfortunately those plans were dropped and now we have a Epsilon II Impala coming 2014. I have no idea why they are taking so long and why they chose that platform, but GM always has it's moments of not making sense.

Anyway, what would the world be like were the Zeta Impala released?

    Wow, tough crowd.

I think GM would not have gone bankrupt, the recession would not have started, and unicorns would run free in the streets, with tacos who poop ice cream riding atop them.

Also 90% of the people on the forum would be driving one

Chevy would be much much stronger as a company, because right now they don't really have anything to compete with the Taurus and similarly large vehicles, and it's hurting the brand image.

Seriously, do we need ANOTHER Chevy Zeta sedan thread? Until I sit in one for sale at a dealer it's vaporware

Oh, I'd imagine the whole world would be completely different!

Why, there'd be world peace, no air pollution whatsoever, global warming would come to a screeching halt, in fact I'd even go so far as to conjecture it might even reverse itself without further human input! Also, everyone around the world would be gainfully employed in careers they absolutely love by employers that value their net worth as individuals, not as economic commodities. 'Global economic crisis?' Why, that cataclysmic travesty would never have occured if only a Zeta-derived Impala been graciously bestowed upon us God-fearing folk here in North America.

Yup, had that Zeta-based Impala arrived back in '08 it would have changed everything. The entire planet would be damn near unrecognizable.

yes ........... "Thank you, sir! May I have another"

To echo the sentiments of tbirderic ........... All the things you could ever imagine that could be affected in a positive way would materialize. This the divine prophecy, some examples are: Shoes would tie themselves, your boss would give you a raise, overseas call centers would be eliminated, made in the USA would dominate, Al Gore would admit he did not invent the internet, Punxsutawney Phil would never see his shadow again, Elvis will reappear, Mark Reuss would be hailed savior, Coke would teach the world to sing in perfect harmony, and the list goes on. What would it be like .....

The chuch my wife and I attend has a grade school attached. The students had made "I have a dream" crafts which they placed on their lockers that included their own "dreams." One stood out to me which made me chuckle (and also wonder WTF these kids are learning): "I have a dream... that Martin Luther King is still alive."

The Taurus outsold the Lacrosse by only 7000 units this year. A Lacrosse-based Impala would do perfectly fine.

Re: What would the world be like?

I can't say what the world would be like, but I can chime in on the platform issue.

EpII is a volume platform. Impala is GM's best selling volume nameplate. Cars like the Taurus are doing great things for Ford. With an Epsilon II based Impala, you can guarantee unique and expressive sheetmetal, interior, and a wider margin of a selling price.

The Zeta 'Chevy SS', has already been rumoured to come only as a V8 car. If one is buying a large RWD sports sedan, V8 power is what that buyer will want. Also it will share a lot of sheetmetal and interior with the Commodore. Plus a premium cost.
