What car would win in a drag race?

2008 Impala SS with the 5.3 small block V8 or the 2015 Impala LTZ with the 3.6 V6 and 305 hp? I raced a older SS impala but for some reason it couldn't keep up. I thought it had more torque than the v6.

Not sure what a "transmission shop" has to do with the question. But ok!

    Haha.

The 5.3 would mop the floor with the 3.6. The 6 speed will help the 3.6 but not enough to overcome the torque advantage of the 5.3.

    "Was he trying?"

No. He doesn't want to visit the transmission shop. Those cars were a disaster waiting to happen.

Re: What car would win in a drag race?

The 2008 Impala SS is a solid mid-14s car. The 2015 Impala a high-14s car. The 94-96 Impala SS is right around 15 flat. The closer race would be the '15 and 94-96, but finding a 94-96 that is stock or isn't trashed is hard to find.

People can knock the '15 because it doesn't have the torque of the V8s, but it sure impresses the heck out of me.

Just to show how impressive the no torque V6s are, if you threw in a Toyota Avalon into this race, the Avalon make a good race for the '08.

My guess is that he's saying that if those cars were to drag race, the winner would be the transmission shop that has to repair them afterwards?

Re: What car would win in a drag race?

Stock for stock, a '15 Impala V6 is about half a second slower than the 5.3L w-body Impala SS. However, the w-body chassis and transmission isn't up to par with the LS4 V8 powering it. The 4-speed is at it's absolute limit.

The new Impala with the LFX could match or beat the old Impala SS with a tune. I know because I wrote a tune for my 6T70 trans and 3.6L V6 and made a .4 second difference. The power output of the LFX is even more strangled than the V6 in my Malibu. You can see it in the SAE cert. charts.
