    should GM build the Chevelle?

After looking at a thread in here from GMI editors, I was wondering what are peoples thoughts on GM possibly building the Chevelle. Should they do it? What would the impact be on the competition, or the on the Camaro? Do you think it would be a good idea to have a Corvette, a Camaro, and a Chevelle all on the same lot?

I think they should do it! However, do it right! Not like the GTO. IF they build it and it gets a SS sticker on it, IT BETTER BE GOOD! I am not saying that it has to be a 454 big block, but it better be good. If they did it right I think it would actually help Camaro sales and really hurt the Challenger and slightly hurt the Mustange.

    What do you guys think?

GM DOES build the Chevelle. It's called "Malibu".

I think a good many of you look to the past through rose-tinted glasses. For every hot “Melba Toast” 454 SS Chevelle hardtop that rolled out of the factory, at least a dozen bench-seated, three-on-the-tree Chevelle grocery-getters found homes with buyers.

Elvis is dead. And so is the "muscle car". It's a bitter pill to swallow!

Though a production version of, say, the Chevrolet SS concept car, would be interesting!

t-rex, don`t be so smart! You know the original poster is referring to the concept which was hanging on the wall at the GM Hollywood Design Studio.

    The muscle car has evolved.

The musclecars of yore are overhyped anyway.

    Those are "pony cars".

"Muscle car" referred to the hi-po versions of ordinary family cars like Chevelles, Fairlanes, Belvederes, etc.

I don't think there's room for two coupes of the same size and theme in the Chevrolet lineup. Or any lineup. Given today's preference for four-door cars, coupled with the growing "four door coupe" trend, I think a "four door Camaro", so to speak, would find a niche market. Or end up competing with the Dodge Charger, itself a revived "muscle" car.

Chevrolet is supposed to be getting a version of the next Holden Commodore, so that will in effect satiate any modern-day demand for a "Chevelle" type of car.

I know this is symantics but the z28 will get 550ish horses. The boss is going to be petty good too! Also in my original post I said the motor didn't have to be a "big block 454" only it should be pretty damn good. I would like them to make the Chevelle, make it a little retro. It could really work out. If they used the "blueprint" that they used in designing the Camaro in designing the Chevelle it could be a monster!

I know this design is supposed to show evidence of early Camaro DNA but the rotated view reminds me most of the Sunfire.

    Impala perhaps?

With the Cruze now on the market and the Malibu on the way I really have to wonder where the Impala will (eventually) fit it. There is significant overlap between the Regal and LaCrosse as well.

Thank God for hemi Chargers, 300e's, hemi Jeeps, Sho's. At least if Gm doesn't want to build them there's other places for us relics to spend our money. I thank Carroll Shelby for the first non GM new car I've ever purchased. I know GM still has it's soul in there somewhere.

Agree, you can't have the Malibu smaller than the Chevelle. That name is dead and gone, folks. Sorry.

Agree, and most of the cars anymore that are considered "muscle cars" were downright lame in '68. The only person drooling over an Olds 442 was your weird uncle, and the Impala SS was as cool as a '95 Taurus.

I don't see a real big market for the Chevelle. It would be nice to see it come back, but if it did I'm afraid it would go the route of the SSR. Limited availability, and probably way overpriced....
We don't need to Find New Roads, we need to fix the ones we have now....

The Impala will probably move to the new Super Epsilon platform with the XTS and 3G LaCrosse if I had to guess. They aren't likely killing that nameplate off anytime soon. That will also fix the Regal-LaCrosse overlap, although sales don't seem to suggest -for now- that either are eating into the other.
