    A proper refreshed '14 Malibu...

First post here on GMI. Since I drive an '09 Malibu and really dislike how they slapped on an incoherent new face for '14, I figured I'd post my Malibu chop with Chevy's new design language (Impala/Traverse) for everyone to check out. I'll compare it with the actual '14. Let me know what you guys think.

Up front I gave it the Impala grille, made the hood overhang more aggressively pointed, gave the headlights "eyeliner" to slim them down, and added LED running lights by the fogs.

Around back, the only simple change I came up with that was cost effective/realistic for a refresh was to smooth out the notch in the squared off tail-lights. I thought it toned down some of the busyness and out-of-place butchness from the current design.

Nice job. Front end really looks sharper. More expensive.

So what was the consensus here when the '14 refresh was unveiled? Do people like the way the new one looks or were opinions divided? I feel like it's just different for the sake of being newer than before, but it's going to age quickly. I also don't think it stands out in any way against other midsize cars.

I tried to make my version more cohesive and get back some of the presence and classiness that the 08-12 model did when it debuted.

I think the real new one is an improvement over the original. But you chop is better than both of them and what I think what everyone was expecting

Eh. I'll be honest, I like the real '14 better.

Your chopped picture has a darker or higher contrast look to it, adding to the more upscale look.

I saw a 13' and thought the front looked great, it's the rear that needed attention.

Still better looking then the Fusion though. They look like overstyled cheap cars to me, like the Sonata.

I like the refresh up front; however, I like your chop better as it's more cohesive with the design direction of Chevrolet.

On the other hand, I find the rear end hideous no matter what.

Yours is far better than either the 2013 or the 2014. I was very disappointed with the 2013 model and the changes for 2014 do nothing for me since they are far less of an improvement than I was expecting. The body needs a total restyle - too many discordant elements.

It's an excellent chop, but I think I like the real thing better. I'll acknowledge that your chop is cleaner, but to me it is a little staid. I doesn't have the 'pop' of the similar Impala. I would agree on where you were going, though. I find the overall proportions and detailing of the previous car nicer than the current car. It looked far more expensive than it was. The current wider, shorter wheelbase car loses something due to the overall proportions. MonaroSS did a RWD version of the new car, with a longer dash-to-axle ration that really worked. Makes me think the issue with the current car is more in its proportions than in front or rear graphics.

I saw that thread you're referring to, but the pic no longer works so I couldn't see it.

Thanks for the kind words everybody!

Agreed. I'm glad the production model didn't come out like this. Looks too much like the Impala.

I'm looking forward to seeing the refreshed '14 Malibu in person.

Welcome here, CP! Always good to see a CMF member on here!

Your chop looks great. I just don't like the piece of plastic in between the hood and grille. It looks tacky on both yours (not your fault), and the actual 2014 car.

Hey man! Glad to be here. CMF seems a little stale lately with traffic for our gen Malibu waning and the new one not catching my interest. I was hoping to see more good topics here since I'm into all things GM. See you around!
