Possible new RE engine for Volt 2.0?

VERY interesting concept here by a California company. As a 2014 Volt owner I wonder if GM would consider using something like this as their range extender for Voltec 2.0? The company says they are talking to multiple potential customers....?

What do you all think? Possible? Maybe Voltec 2.5 or 3.0?

They claim to have fixed all the Wankel rotary issues so if in fact that is true this would be a revolutionary engine. I hope their claims are accurate, especially in reguards to the torque and sealing.

I've gotta admit, IF this thing does hold true it is impressively simple. No valves, no cam... the parasitic loss usually associated with valvetrain would be wiped out. Sitting under the hood of a Volt 2.0 as the range extender, this could be very compelling.

The current 4 banger in the Volt 1.0 does 30-ish MPG in full RE/ICE mode (not Hold mode... heck I get 50+ in Hold)... so if this new engine could deliver 40+ in RE (60? in Hold?), be smaller (thus easier to package under the hood), that could free up mass to help with battery life, etc.

Lots of "ifs" in that sentence. Still, I love it when someone can come up with a fairly new idea on a 100+ year old technology!

Sounds cool if it works. Sounds like a good option for a home generator.

I'm sure the mechanicals of Voltec 2.0 are already locked into place.

I would agree regarding Voltec 2.0... probably already packaged. I'm personally hoping this little engine works out and maybe a MCE (nee Voltec 2.5) in a few years can bring this to the table as an option.
