OOPS! Just Bought A 2013 Malibu

Its just a 1LT. It will be delivered to me today or tomorrow. I have not driven one, seen one, or even sat in one. I have not even been to a dealership but just wrote a check for $20,400. With all the negativity on the various forums here about the Malibu I'm scared now. I think it would scare anyone away but I'm committed now.

I do have an 09 Malibu which I am keeping because I like it and its the first car I have ever owned that has not had a single problem (time will tell though it only has 22k miles on it). What I do like about the 09 is the heavy, solid and quiet feel it has. If the 2013 is anything like that I'll be happy. I don't care much about back seat room, gas mileage or even the look of the exterior of a car. I don't even know what color the car is I'm getting. I do care what the interior of a vehicle is like and from pictures I've seen the interior of the 13 Malibu looks nice but again there seems to be a lot of negativity about that as well. Wish me Luck.

Who drops $20k on a car without even seeing it in person? Is that really a smart idea? Is this even real?

I think you will like it but I could be wrong. My dad picked up a 2013 LS earlier this year and I have to say the only thing I hate about it is that the LS doesn't come with the 7" screen for mylink but instead a small blue screen. Other than that yes the back seat room is smaller compared to other cars but I'm 5'11 and my dad is about the same and I fit fine behind him and we are both fairly big guys. It is also a very solid feeling car hence why my dad likes to stick with GM and it drives really nice, it actually feels more solid than my Terrain that I just picked up.

I had a friend who leased an Acura TL last year through a Car Broker, and he didn't even test drive it.

Its real. This is how I buy all my vehicles. I don't care to go to dealerships and put up with all the crap and tactics and shopping around. I have a neighbor that is a salesman at a Chevy dealer. I tell him what I want and If I like the price I write a check and he brings me the car. Sometimes I'll ask to have the car for a few days before I actually buy it. I know. Not the way most people would do it.

I had a loaner vehicle, a 1500 mile 2013 malibu, just last month while my corvette was being serviced and I was quite impressed with it.

It had a nice black metallic paint...and it was a pleasant drive.

I'm not going to say it wouldn't have benefited with the turbo engine but for 20 grand ....the 192 hp was more than sufficient.

    Congrats and best of luck

Ive picked out cars for clients and they didn't even test drive it. They told me what they wanted and I figured the perfect car. They ordered it and waited for delivery! I am sure plenty of people do this.

That would be the Malibu Focus Group's target buyer.......

    --------------------------------------------------------

At $20,400 it sounds like he got a pretty good deal, ($19,000 + tax/title/doc) most would have a hard time getting a 1LT Cruze for that, and if it has the convenience package, an added bonus!

The 2013 Malibu isn't a "bad" car, it’s just not a dramatic improvement over the 2012, and thus not worth the +/- 30% premium GM was trying to sell them for out of the gate.

Well in that case I'll be able to spend more time on these forums because my wife will divorce me. The cars for her. On the other hand what was the car in recent years that was pink and actually looked not too awful? I remember seeng a lot of them but cant think of what it was.

Thanks for your input. Pleasant drive is what I like. Horsepower means nothing to me. I had my share of Cuda's and the like with big eights in my younger years. Fact is some of these 4's today out perform many of the milder 8's of 60's, 70's and 80's but you got too redline the crap out of the 4's to get the power. On the other hand I have a 2000 Chevy S-10 with the 4.3 six. IMHO, based on its inferior handling, braking and traction characteristics, its it way overpowered and almost dangerous. I believe that engine is only rated at 190 hp but its bottom end torque is brutal.

You're keeping a 2009 Malibu while buying a new '13? Is the old car a 4-cylinder as well? Unless it's becoming someone else's car, I don't see the point in keeping two midsize economy cars around just for sentimental value.

A heads up to anyone presently looking for a malibu. I Don't know the sticker price yet because I have not seen the car or the paper work but there was a $2500 rebate. Then I had been poking around for a few days on the chevy malibu webpage looking at pics and specs of the car. The last time I was poking around, a window popped up with a $1000 printable offer that is good with any other current offers. I printed it and handed it off to my neighbor salesman and got the additional 1K. I have since tried to get this window to pop up again to no avail. It must be a random offer so keep trying with multiple visits to the website. I believe it said its good for any chevy vehicle.
