    Next Impala will be RWD!!!

    http://www.autolinedetroit.tv/journal/?p=8968#more-8968

Skip to minute 54, the next Impala will not be XTS based and will be RWD. No word on Alpha or Zeta.

All I have to say is, I told you so

Big thanks to Dr. Show-Me for finding this.

I'm waiting for a confirmation. It doesn't really make sense for CAFE reasons.
I thought it would make more sense to have a Camaro platform based Chevy Chevelle.

Wow, the on-again, off-again, on-again-with-FWD, off-again, on-again-with-RWD, off-again, now on-again-with-RWD next generation Impala will in fact be RWD?

    Who'd a thunk it?

When it's sitting on the dealer lot in a form to be purchased by general consumers is when I will believe that the next generation Impala will be beautifully designed and RWD.

Will for now it will be RWD, but wait another two weeks and GM will decide to make it FWD again and then RWD, then FWD, then RWD, then FWD...

Ill wait for mrDenali to post the MPG numbers. Its quite obvious that FWD or RWD they will achieve pretty much the same numbers.

When you think about it this makes perfect sense.

It makes no sense to have the Impala and Malibu continue to compete with each other for sales on the same lot. They are investing a good amount of money into the next Malibu and need it to sell better then the current model.

Also the Impala has a high mix of fleet sales, so move it up market a bit and make it RWD makes perfect sense. Its going to most likely cost a bit more then with the base model probably starting at about $25,000. They will not sell 300,000 units a year anymore probably aim for 60,000 to 100,000 units a year in sales however the slack will be made up by the Malibu.

I can see GM moving away from the Zeta platform though and moving to the Alpha platform if the Alpha platform can support bigger vehicles.

A Commodore 3.0L get's better fuel economy than a Buick Lacrosse I4 (converted from ADR to EPA of course) and a Caprice 3.6L beats a Lacrosse 3.6L.

In large cars, it comes down to which car is engineered better, not whether it's FWD or RWD.

And I do think this will stick, seeing this is the new and improved GM, making one smart decision and sticking to it!

I'll believe it when the car is on sale and someone does a burnout. Until then, we've heard this before a million times.

If the new Malibu will be on LWB Epsilon II (LaCrosse sized) another large FWD Impala would be redundant IMO.

    Please let this be true.

Re: Next Impala will be RWD!!!

Maybe the people who want a largeish FWD car will be pushed to Malibu, thus pushing up its numbers, and a RWD Impala will bring in a whole new customer?

Well, if they can get the MPG up there than this will be good.
