Next Gen delivers more technology at new price as low as $26,495

The new Chevy Volt starts at a lower price than we had anticipated...

The Chevrolet Volt is poised to continue to bring new owners to the electric plug-in family. Pricing will be as low as $26,495 after the full federal tax credit of $7,500. (Federal tax credit can range from $0 up to $7,500.) In California, the vehicle’s largest market, residents of the state will be able to purchase the all-new Volt for as low as $24,995 after state and federal incentives.

The 2016 model will start at $33,995 MSRP, including an $825 destination fee (excluding tax, title, license and dealer fees). This is almost $1,200 less than the current-generation Volt.

“The next-generation Chevy Volt delivers more technology, the ability to drive further between gas fill-ups and now with even more value to our customers. It’s what our loyal Volt owners told us they wanted,” said Steve Majoros, director, Chevrolet Marketing. “We are confident we will continue to attract new customers to Volt with the vehicle’s product improvements and attractive price.”

I should mention that this price is, of course, after the full federal tax credit of $7,500. The 2016 model will start at $33,995 MSRP, including an $825 destination fee (excluding tax, title, license and dealer fees). This is almost $1,200 less than the current-generation Volt.

I was hoping for an MSRP with a "2" at the front of it.

IMHO it should have had a "L" spec for 29995
but hopefully they WILL roll out excellent lease rates as I doubt the "BUY" rate will be high @ 33K +

What does it take to qualify for the tax credit?

I'm moving in July and might find a place where I can charge it.

Pretty good price! I forget, is the $7,500 capped? Meaning once GM hits 250,000 units sold the government will no longer offer the $7,500? I thought I had read that years ago, but not sure. If so, what will happen to sales once that cap is hit??

Either way, I think the new Volt looks sharp and I may consider it for my next car with my soon to be "expanded" commute of 45 miles each way (from 25 miles each way). And my company offers free charging.....

Good price. It also only comes in LT/LTZ, so this price is already "skewed up" a trim level or so.

You can configure one if this hasn't been posted. More of a visualizer, but whatever. Fun for 5 minutes.

We are long way from GM selling 250,000 EVs. Once GM manages this number, the technology would have gained the economies of scale, it should be no more expensive than a comparable ICE vehicle.

Pretty cool and honestly the LT has all that I would need. Have to wait and see actual packages but I'm leaning toward LT

But 250,000 will come, and it is an issue that must be dealt with someday. And if GM get's Prius level of acceptance, then it will be very much sooner rather than later. And no matter the economies of scale it will always be an ICE+electric, therefore it can never be as cheap as an ICE...

In order to get the full $7500 credit, do you have to owe the IRS at least $7500, or do you still get the credit even if you are getting a refund?
