Next-gen Corvette to be right hook, mid-engined $120,000 V8 Holden Halo

The next-generation Corvette will emerge from the Bowling Green production line with the steering wheel on the right and deliver traditional V8 performance as well as a hybrid-infused high-tech knockout as part of a three-tiered range set to redefine America’s most iconic muscle car.

It will possibly use the Zora name – referencing Zora Arkus-Duntov, the ‘father’ of the original 1953 Corvette. GM has also trademarked E-Ray, which is expected to be used on a hybrid flagship.

The shift to a mid-engine layout will allow for better positioning of weight over the rear wheels, bringing dynamic benefits and allowing for more power in high-end versions of what insiders say will be the fastest, most engaging Corvette in the 64-year history of the model.

I think it'll start a bit lower. I think 80-90k. Let Cadillac start at 120k

You're still in the same price range, I thought the same. $85k.

No new news here besides the higher output small block, if it's legit.

Very interested to see how it all pans out... will we move to a Corvette "brand?"

I do not see how they completely abandon the regular traditional vette layout. Its ridiculously successful as a car and as a cult

1st, from the article, $120K in Holdenia, as a right driver.

    B), 375kw=500hp.

3), "Further, we understand that as the ’Vette flexes its muscles throughout its life, we can expect a new dohc engine for the hi-po ZR1, which is also likely to be utilised with the hybrid drivetrain."

Maybe hybrid is helping those ZR1's on the 'ring allow the engine to rev as lively as it does, without 700hp; I've never believed that they needed 700hp to compete with the competition. And if they don't need 700hp, then they don't need a blower or turbo(s), unless the 'plant is smaller than current use.

I have not noticed the Vette mules getting sideways at all...just the Camaros, as evidenced by the wall damage.

    hmmm...

    120k Aus dollars not US

its crazy cheap compared to supercars available in Australia at that price but we still need a ~50K priced V8 engined car to replace what we've lost

Agree, and they have the perfect opportunities for it.

Use new CTS to replace Impala with RWD; port it over to Australia as RHD, supplement Insigniadore.

Big Cadillac coupe (mid-level? flagship?), use for a... flagship Buick? new "$55,000 successful plumber's car" to replace the Stingray (Chevelle)? maybe a newer, bigger Camaro?; same as above, as a Monaro. Has to be from three brands, i.e. not directly from Cadillac to go to Holden. Not sure where something like it would come from or fit... If a Buick, it'd have to be a flagship Cadillac or else there'd be almost no daylight between a midlevel Cadillac coupe and a flagship Buick, but then where do you get any volume?

Only way to soothe the savage beast is to give you guys more than what you've lost. Australian-made, no, but I'm sure you guys have less of a problem with US-made than Chinese-made. Has to feel less exploitative.

Then again, if they build Cadillacs in two places and HK is an obvious target for them with the entire RHD population of the world in the same hemisphere as their China plant... they'll probably be built in China.

Zora Arkus-Duntov was NOT the father of the original Corvette. It was Harley Earl. In fact, it was Harley Earl who hired Zora in the late '50's to give Corvette a racing image. He needs to learn his Corvette history.....

So how does an Australian magazine know for a fact that there will be a mid-engine Corvette, let alone a RHD drive version? Something that has not been confirmed in the USA. Though we've seen the mules, as far as I recall it has not yet been confirmed to be a Vette. Could be a Cadillac. Though with that said, I do expect that the mules we've been seeing in fact are future Corvettes, but it is still an assumption.

I smell speculation presented as fact.

They're playing on the trademark lawsuit issue.

I took the trademark fight issue to mean GM was serious about importing to Australia, or they wouldn't need to fight about it.

To import, I think they need RD vehicles, so should they prevail in the suit, I would expect they are prepared to build RD product.

Timing due to the suit could kill their initiative, but I've always thought that that was the plan when they killed Holden.

It may evaporate, it may not.

It's ridiculous to determine that GM is infringing on the Red Cross.

    http://www.4wheelsnews.com/auto/gm-c...nce-36658.html

How can they not prevail? The symbols are not the same anyway.

My belief is the corvette price for the base mid engine model will be five grand more than today's z51 model and have around 500 hp.

I personally believe contrary to past new generation releases the most expensive models will release first and will create a positive image over the future less expensive 500 hp models.

Just a guess on my part but I've been a corvette owner for about 20 years and have followed the corvette since the 1960s....

I have no doubt the c8 will be the best. Every new generation for the most part have been improved throughout the various generations
