"New" 2015 Chevy Sonic RS Hatchback

So I'm considering a new 2017 Chevy Sonic 5-door hatchback in LT trim (comes with the RS package standard). I used the Cars.com site to search "new" Sonic models within a select radius from where I live. Happened to find a Pennsylvania Chevy dealer still has a bunch of "new" leftover 2015 Sonic models, one which is a 5-door hatchback RS model:

I find I like the exterior look of the 2015 a little more, but like the 2017 for the better interior style and more features. Would anyone see a reason not to consider the 2015 model? If yes, why?

    Thanks!

Re: "New" 2015 Chevy Sonic RS Hatchback

I think that's a little steep with it being two model years old already. I know that it's technically still new, but I wouldn't consider more than probably $15K or $16K for that. I've always liked the exterior of the first generation MUCH better than the current model.
Future Rides: Dodge Viper (hopefully someday) & 2009 Pontiac G8/ 2015 Chevrolet SS (seriously)

Current Rides: 2014 Chevy Cruze ECO 6M & 2015 Chrysler Town & County (wife's car)

Past Rides: 1992 Buick Century, 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, 1998 Buick Regal LS, 2003 Buick Regal GS, 2004 Honda Civic EX, 1998 Honda Civic DX, 2001 Ford ZX2, 2002 Dodge Dakota QC 4.7 V8 4x4 & 2009 Saturn Vue XR

Thanks for the reply. I'm not too concerned about the price "yet", that's what negotiating is for I'm more concerned about a two year old "new" car sitting on the lot so long. And if there's any known issues with the 2015 model year that I should be concerned with.

Re: "New" 2015 Chevy Sonic RS Hatchback

I don't have an RS, but I really like my 2015 LS with the 5sp 1.8L (the RS comes with the 1.4T). So far zero problems in 28K miles. If want to know the nitty gritty, check out the Sonic forums, lots of info on mods/tunes/etc:

    http://www.sonicownersforum.com/forum/

Is MPG an issue? Note that the RS has different gearing for performance, gets lower highway MPG than LT/LTZ/Premier 1.4T Sonics.

I personally wouldn't hesitate to buy a 2015...if the price is right. Compare for example to Certified Used 2015 Sonics available at dealers. But with the new 20% off on the 2017s, you might be able to haggle the 2015 down to a very interesting level...let us know what you end up doing!

UPDATE: Old LT/LTZ get better MPG than old RS (which has different gearing). New RS gets same MPG (it's basically an appearance package).

    My thoughts:

You are crazy! - Try looking at it this way; let's say you buy it, in a year you'll have a 3 1/2 year year old car with 12,000 miles worth about $10,000 - $12,000.

Re: "New" 2015 Chevy Sonic RS Hatchback

    Thanks, Ed!

I'm primarily interested in leasing a 2017 Sonic LT RS Hatchback, that's how I found this 2015 RS and figured if I could own it cheaper than leasing a 2017, I'd consider it (I'm looking to not use my Canyon or the wife's LaCrosse for our daily work commute - 35 miles one way - we carpool as we work for the same company). I'd never pay the price they show on their site, especially for a 2 year old "new" car. Just tossing the idea around, not sure what I will do with a Sonic.

    I appreciate all the feedback!

The fact you drive +/- 70 miles a day, only makes it worse, if my 1st example didn't scare you enough, try this one:

    In 2 years you'll have a 4 1/2 year old car with 40,000 miles worth? $8,000?

Since you drive so much; you really do need to buy something, unless you don't drive it everyday.

I know you were looking at the Cruze earlier; just buy one! I'm sure the deals are almost as good, I could have got $8,000 off MSRP on mine in January (~$16,500 plus tax).

Try running a KBB on a used 2015 Sonic RS in Excellent condition to see what it'll be worth the minute you leave the lot. See if you can talk 'em down to close to that!

If you're gonna keep it "forever" I wouldn't worry about the model year but the points brought up are valid otherwise.

I wouldn't worry about it sitting but I'd ask them to change the oil.
