My dad can't get a test drive of the new corvette.

Hi everyone, I have been a long time GMinsidenews reader. My dad currently owns a 2007 C6 corvette and is in the market for a new car. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how my dad could get a test drive for the C7 . He tried a couple of dealers already and they have said no to a test drive and that he could only drive the car if he purchased it. My Dad feels it is unreasonable to purchase a $60-70,000 without a test drive. We live in central New Jersey.

I encountered such thinking with my old Pontiac dealer - I never understood why. How can a dealer expect to sell a car without offering test drives. I get that they don't want to let every Joe Average come into the shop and go for a 15 minute joy ride with no intention to buy. But if your father is showing up at the dealer with an '07, dresses nicely (not like a bum who can't afford one), etc. I see no reason why they wouldn't let him take a ride.

But I don't work in the industry, so I can't offer any ideas. Try a different dealer?

Are the dealers telling everyone there are no test drives of the new Corvette, or just your dad?

We did tried a couple of different dealers. I guess we could look at some more dealers.

    Find a different dealer. Period.

They might not let you drive one if they are sold models as inventory is still REALLY tight so he might have to just wait.

I suppose it would be ideal to test drive it but is there a critical decision that needs to be made by your dad that only a test drive can do?

I guess what I'm saying is from what I've read on the forums, most people already know whether they want the car or not. It just comes down to what kind of options they want. The C7 is an amazing car and the verdict is out. Everything about the car can be read about. I realize driving the car is a different experience but what would stop him from buying it even if he couldn't drive it or what is he looking to find by driving it?

My dad is considering purchasing a car very soon it will either be the corvette or the new cayman. If he can't get the test drive for the corvette then he will be purchasing the cayman.

Go to Atlantic City...there's a MASSIVE Corvette dealer down there. They typically have 50+ in inventory. Should have no problem getting a car to test there.

I could easily see why he would want a test drive, as I would also.

Many years ago, when we bought our 1991 Mustang GT, I wanted to test drive a Corvette to see if I wanted that instead. The dealership told me I had to come back with my husband first.

The car would have been for me.
