I always liked the C4 styling, I like the cleanness of the exterior design.** I was disappointed when I rented one though - tons of squeaks and rattles.

**Though, I was a teen/early 20's when it was current, I assume it is a common thing to have a soft spot for the vehicles of your youth....

I had a '93 coupe and a '96 convertible. Both wonderful cars. How I wish I had them now.

In a vacuum the car looks OK, sitting next to a C5, and it's like................

I'm starting to see quite a few of the C8's one of the neighbors just got one about 3 weeks ago.

    Pretty bad-azz.

I have an 86 convertible. Love the C4 style. And they handle like a go cart.

    Really cool video to watch!

The exterior looks ok and has aged reasonably well, particularly on the later years with the rounded backside. That interior though. Combined with terrible ergonomics and build quality, always make me pause. I browsed ZR1s the other day, and while C4 Z's in great shape can be had for 25-30k, there's just nothing appealing enough to justify the purchase beyond saying I own an LT-5. (You can now make fun of me for being a hypocrite on build quality because I love my 3rd and 4th gen Fbods). The C5 is darn close to C4 prices now and was just a huge leap forward in every aspect, performance, quality, durability.

I'm hard pressed to find a better $/performance value than a C5Z in good shape.

disappointing when something that you have in your head as "da bomb" doesn't turn out that way in reality. I was very disappointed with the C4 when I drove it. In my head it was this high tech wonder with huge, steam roller tires. The squeaks, rattles and not so awesome interior really ruined it for me, but I still love it. I had the same reaction driving a mid-80's Mercedes SL (sometime in the early 90's was my drive). After reading the endless praise of German cars from the auto mags I was expecting nirvana. At regular street speeds and highway speeds it felt awful, like someone had a huge hand pressing down on it. It wasn't pleasurable for me. I guess the magic started over 100 mph, a place I didn't go to. But the interior didn't squeak...

Really? The C5 has way too much Pontiac DNA in its front end styling.

I feel like the C4 is the best looking after the C2, the C3 the worst.

Here is mine in the early 90's.

I agree, exterior wise I prefer the C4 over the bubble looking C5. The C6 was an improvement (I had one) and the C7 nailed it IMO.

Re: The Most Underrated Car in the World - C4 Corvette

I always loved the C4. I've driven one, but not enough to really comment on it. But I liked the look of the interior with the graphs and digital gauges.

The exterior to me is timeless. Beautiful flowing design that took the Corvette into the modern era, with a chassis that gave it world class handling. For style, the C7 is my favorite, followed by the C4, particularly late C4s.

I can get people not thinking it's the best looking Corvette, but I can't imagine someone thinking that it's ugly.

Great review, but love the "typical American quality control" comment because of a door-ajar switch that he had to disconnect. He bought a 25 year old car for very little money, drove it 10,000 miles in a month, it ran flawlessly and handled better than any car he had. That's pretty good quality.

Re: The Most Underrated Car in the World - C4 Corvette

My father nearly bought my favorite German car of all time - 993 911 in the 90's, the guy who finally bought it has had many complaints about it's quality over the years. Including interior materials and mechanical issues. The difference is there are plenty of C4 everywhere (yes in Europe too) and it has so-so reputation (at least all the issues are not expensive to fix) and 993 is almost non-existent outside of Porsche meetings, the prices are crazy (sometimes higher than new 911s) - so there are rarely any discussions about it's quality (and high maintenance costs) anywhere.
