It's a quality car. Simple as that.

It's on pace to do the same amount (or more sales) as 2011 and 2012. GM hasn't had sustained annual sales in this segment for over a decade.

Cruze was #5 and top domestic seller in the US in July.

Question is, however, how much of the current "spurt" in sales is due to the "new" Diesel Cruze and how much is due to the "old" Gasoline Cruze models.

Good problem for GM to have!

Though I do feel bad for employees that must've planned some vacation time.

There are very few diesels on the road. Most the sales are probably built up inventory being sold out.

With any luck, every one of those Cruze were built with the 1.4L Turbo.

They can't really make that many diesel Cruzes per shift. There are some crazy internal restrictions for putting them together.

The GM-management mandated limit production of only 10,000 vechicles? Due to the imported diesel engines from the German plant?

It will be interesting to see if gm sells out of diesel cruzes and how long it takes..

    The whole industry is watching...

Awesome how well the big three are doing..

    Ford with the fusion..
Chrysler with the jeep grand Cherokee and GM with the sonic and cruze..

I will be driving past Lordstown Assembly, though not in the Cruze, but in my Camaro, 10 days from now. It's good to hear for the local community at least that the Cruze is a smash hit. Employment in Ohio, Western PA, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin is always a good thing.
"The car's brilliant and ... a great surprise, pleasant surprise for all Corvette lovers everywhere ... a huge shock to our competitors ... because I don't think anybody was expecting something that good. What pleases me the most about it was that ... I can say this is the first car that's come out, that was done since I left.

-- Bob Lutz, former vice chairman and head of global product development at GM
