The idea for a future Alpha based Chevy sedan thread!!!

    Talk all about it here

Only 1 rule of the thread, keep Zeta talk to an absolute minimum. Talk too much about Zeta, and you'll get das boot!

I think the new VF Zetas will be superb cars, especially considering the existing models.

This is the car that America should get. Designed primarily for America, it won't have any of the weird little quirks that many don't like about THAT OTHER PLATFORM WE CAN'T TALK ABOUT. It would also be able to get suburb fuel economy so that lesser trim levels could actually pull their own weight and provide a viable CHEAP RWD option for those who want it.

The Alpha will be more versatile in the US, compared to a V8 only model. Also no salt water contamination or surface rust.
The Alpha should be built with left and right steering so that the mates down under get a chance for a modern cheap CTS in the form of an Impala SS sedan. Alpha may be a few inches narrower than the model we can't speak of, but it will still be rated for 3 in the rear seat, they just can't be full-sized adult males. If you want 3 adult males in the rear seat, they'll just have to lose weight!

Alpha can wait. No need for a ute to be built off it at all.

The "other" platform will house a Ute, don't worry.

    And Alpha+ is 5-Series-sized.

Although truth be told, much of Europe's cars come here mostly unscathed and don't feel "quirky" IMO, so maybe Australia and America need to collaborate better.

"weird little quirks"? What kind of quirks could a platform have?

Re: The idea for a future Alpha based Chevy sedan thread!!!

Is Alpha perhaps too expensive or too small for a Chevy sedan? The biggest car we know that will be on Zeta is the next CTS which is at midsize. I would like to see something bigger than that for Chevrolet.

Perhaps the answer is to take Alpha, simplify it to make it cheaper and make it bigger.

Wasn't there some talk of Beta or some such a while back?

If the 2018 "VG" cars are moving to Alpha or getting redesigned at all, I wonder if GM will push the NA-spec Holdens back AGAIN so we get a "better" product. Hmm.

Re: The idea for a future Alpha based Chevy sedan thread!!!

The whole issue of size is over-rated. The *eta isn't 60" in shoulder or hip room, so it would be tight for 3 adult males. Take 3 more inches out of the width, and it may be rated for 3 in the rear, but they would just be more crowded. Both cars are really 4 passenger cars, and as such both cars' widths are just fine.
Just as the *eta can hold a V6 or V8, a reduction of 3 inches of width would similarly mean that the V6 and V8 will fit, and in fact have been planned from the furthest back we know. If the Alpha is 55" wide, that is still wide enough to fit a 4'x8' sheet of plywood if it were a ute, and more than wide enough for 2 adult males.
So let's see what Alpha appears to be at present:
    Length: 180-200 inches
Width: unknown, but narrower than *eta, so let's guess 55" of shoulder and hip room.
Height: between 55 and 58 inches most likely
Weight: estimated 3700 pounds for a loaded model, down to perhaps 3100 for a stripper
Engines: 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder, 8 cylinder, version of voltec likely, with turbo versions of the 4s and 6s likely and a SC for the V8 as a possible ATS-V, CTS-V and Camaro ZL1
    drive: rwd and awd
    Body styles:
2 door coupe - ATS, Camaro, CTS+, could also be Monte Carlo, Riviera, El Dorado, Grand National, Impala SS,
2 door convertible - ATS, Camaro, and the other coupes listed above.
    Wagon - ATS
sedan - ATS, CTS+, Buick and Chevrolet versions are no-brainers as being logical choices.
Ute - no word, but could easily be built on the lwb versions
SUV - no word, but the SRX is a near-perfect fit as an awd Alpha, competing with X3, while a larger version could compete with X5 and the like
Transmissions: 6 speed manuals and automatics, 8 speed auto said to be coming as well, DCT under development, possible strong and mild hybrids, strong and mild electrics
Interior: cloth and vinyl, leather, with advanced infotainment and nav.
When: ATS production starting July 2012, with other versions to follow in 2013 and beyond.
With the more advanced chasis dynamics and steering feel, the Alphas shape up to be GM's most advanced, state-of-the-art program that will take them into the 2020s. I can hardly wait!!!
Other the other hand, we have *eta, with a V8 performance sedan and possible ute for the next several years. Yeah.....

I remember it being marketed as a car that as nearly as roomy as the contemporary 5 Series, yet exterior dimensions were closer to the 3 Series.

I also remember it having a 3.6L Twin Turbo with 375hp, and I believe that was without DI.

    I want.
