Since the 2005 Malibu LT runs in the lower $26K range, I'd suspect the 2006 SS would run somewhere between $26-$27K.

Comapare a comparible Terraza so a Uplander, and then a Lacrosse CXL or a Malibu LT, to help see how much more they'll charge, as the Lacrosse CSX uses that same 240 HP engine.

Re: how much will the 06 malibu SS cost?

The LaCrosse uses the 3.6L OHC engine; the Malibu/Maxx SS uses the 3.9L OHV engine. Both DO have 240 hp. The 3.9L isn't in any '05 models. ALL '06 CSVs (vans) get the 3.9; it's not in the '05s.

Good question about Malibu/Maxx SS pricing. The order guides for the '06 Malibu are not yet posted.

I'd agree with the post above ($26-27), but with a nicely-equipped version tending more toward $28-29.

But, there may be hope. The Grand Prix GXP surprised all and came in at only $29,995 (a lot more with all the options), so it just might start at, say, $24,995 (for the sedan).

Just to clarify, the CSVs only get the 3.9 as an option.

The LaCrosse uses the HF VVT 3.6 OHC V6.

The Malibu SS uses the VVT 3.9 OHV V6.

Well, three if you include the 3800 supercharged that's in the '05 Impala SS.

Re: how much will the 06 malibu SS cost?

I'd forgotten that we already know the price of the '06 G6 GTP (which has the 3900). That's $25,735 with no options (think that's for the sedan), so $24,995 for the Malibu SS sedan is starting to sound like a good guess.

At least in my local area, good luck finding one without every option (or nearly all). I've never seen an Impala or Monte SS at the dealer for under $32K. An '04 Monte SS Supercharged in the showroom last year was over $35K!!

You can always order, but good luck getting the best price that way.

The 3.6 is only 240hp in FWD applications. It as probably also detuned to make sure that Buick kept its quiet interior. The 3.6 makes 255hp in the CTS and STS, and I think 260hp in the SRX.

Buick61, I don't believe the 3800 supercharged will be in existence at the same time as the new 3.9.

It appears that the 3800 Supercharged WILL stick around. Looks like Pontiac is revising the GP line for '06 so that the base GP (a model addition for '05 that I wasn't aware of until I got one as a rental recently) gets the 3800, the GT gets the Supercharged 3800 and the GXP, well, you know what that gets. GTP is history for '06. Not sure I like the idea of a base GP, but the rental companies must have asked for it.

I believe the Rendezvous with the 3.6 has 245 HP.
